Just came across this excellent video! This seems already like an easy cheap quick almost ready made solution i was looking for! ?
Just need to figure out how to hook it up on the RUN solder joint!
*Edit: this analog solution works (read further) and there are cheaper and less energy hungry...
Greetings
I plan to build a DIY pico hydroelectric generator to charge a 12V Lifepo4 battery.
The target output is just 5W!
Why because running the turbine for even just 12hours a day would generate 60Wh per day which is plenty to power led lights, charge a phone a few times, etc.. Also...
Important, the discharge or charge current should be relatively steady. Use a clampmeter (keep in mind +-2% accuracy) to check the current and voltage. Then compare values with pzem and bms. Also check current before and after bms and before and after pzem to check if there is something unusual...
Also, ideally for this test, don't charge or discharge your battery with more than 0.5C.
0.5C of 200ah is 100A!
Check in the datasheet of your battery which charge and discharge rate was used when they did the factory capacity test.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
If the qr code is missing it is a clear sign for a grade B cell at least according to following Chinese sales agent. Very useful Infos in it.
Hello DIYer
Have you also experienced that your non-smart cheap active balancer (example picture attached) causes your painstakingly top-balanced battery to loose its top-balance over time!?
After some research i noticed that so many others experienced this annoyance as well. Unfortunately i...
Excellent!
Usually the Battery Ah (200ah) are calculated with its nominal voltage which is 3.2V or 4s = 12.8v. you should use that number.
If you want to have exact numbers fully charge and discharge your battery to check real Ah and Wh of your battery.
The coulombmeter in the jbd bms is pretty accurate, you can use it for that purpose. You can use also both (pzem) if you want.
Use this app instead, it has more values (100 90 80 ....)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marchingband.overkillsolar
These are my values for reference...
Hi
Have you already attempted to control your active balancer through a controller? How did it go? You may share your experience also in this thread or get some inspiration in case you haven't attempted not yet. There we also look for ways to make these active balancers smarter...
I think he meant all 8 relays will be closed or opened simultaneously. The 8 relays module is just used as a physical switch to completely disconnect and connect the balancer.
His concern seems even if you use the RUN bridge as an on-off the balancer leads are still connected directly to the cells.
Solved this common issue now. Many thanks for WingNut for pointing out the solution here https://diysolarforum.com/threads/xiaoxiang-bms-spontaneously-resets-remaining-capacity-display.22472/post-295322
Also may see here how i did it then...
Sorry i have to correct myself, the jbd counts everything but doesn't show anything below 4-5w.
The bms should be more accurate than pzem. Bms also counts coulomb.
Just use this discharge to get to test compare etc your meters and bms.
Important before you start your capacity test (start...
*Edited, inserted instructions how to solve the SOC issue. All this here is based on WingNut's post here https://diysolarforum.com/threads/xiaoxiang-bms-spontaneously-resets-remaining-capacity-display.22472/post-295322
Greetings to all JBD BMS owners!
Did you also notice that the SOC % value...
Welcome Back!
Nice addition! A similar simple solution, via a victron smart shunt (and some not yet mentioned victron charge controllers and inverters), was presented + professionally illustrated a few pages back by Hans.
Clampmeter is enough for the beginning, if you want to have more accurate numbers you will have to buy something like following:
TK15 Professional Precision Battery Capacity Tester for Portable Equipment E-bike/Balance Car/Cleaning Machine https://a.aliexpress.com/_mqXxTd0
Or cheaper and good as...
I also do face such issues, sudden change in SOC and left capacity in various situations (also after changing certain parameters in the android app).
The situation seems to have improved after i corrected (through the Chinese PC app) the 90 70 50 30 10 0% factory values which were totally off...
Many thanks for this chart!
If i read this chart correctly then even at 0.04C i could charge it till 3.65V without overcharging it. Since i stay below 3.65V my cells should be fine.
Also another takeaway is (if i understood correctly) if i would charge CC with say 0.01C i could overcharge the...
I think so too. Before I started this thread i was desperately looking for a cheap smart active balancer since the standard active balancer totally messed our 16s 202ah battery up. It took me days to top balance the pack again. Since there are no cheap commercial alternatives to those few...
Hi Hans
? Funny that you tried the same!
Guess what made the difference is now there are countless customer testimonials of how those active balancers actually cause imbalance. Only after showing him proof of demand and what the customers need (which is totally correct from their perspective, i...
For me personally key won't be whether there is solar energy or not nor how long or short it balances but the voltage range in which it operates. I intend to have it switch on at about 3.43V cell average and switch off again at about 3.4V if possible. Once the pack is balanced the balancer...
GOOD NEWS
Today i contacted Hankzor if they possibly could customize one of their active balancers to switch OFF at 3.4V instead of 3.0V like the stock version.
Eventually the kind customer agent promised to talk to the factory to customize one active balancer first for an small extra charge...
Many thanks for your reply and ingenious idea + solution how to make these active balancers smarter!
I as many here would really appreciate if you could be persuaded to kindly post a picture of where you connected the optocoupler on your bms model and which optocoupler you used for that. It...
Many thanks for sharing the diagram!
Do i understand correctly that your diagram describes how mueller energy modified (active balancer is switched on and off whenever passive balancer is switched on and off) their custom bms? Is the mosfet in your diagram one of the mosfets in the passive...
1. Bms calculates soc via coulomb counting and estimates through reference voltage values (100% to 0%).
How it seems to work:
In real time it uses coulomb (doesn't reference to voltage), if manual reset, reboot, change of values in settings etc it uses the reference voltage values as a first...
Warm greetings
I have not much experience nor knowledge about electronics so that's why I need and ask for some guidance and help from those who do!
There are three common manual- or fixed mpp modules available for purchase. sd30crma, CN3767, BQ24650. Problem with those is they are quite...
Yes that would be the easy way. I thought about it as well but the price for the 200a 4s version is just not reasonable for a small 50Ah pack like mine. If they would offer a cheaper 60A 4s version and if it would be cheaper than their current 60A 17s version then i wouldn't think twice.
Hi, Let's say you have a 10ah battery. So discharging 1ah of it means 10%. For this you need of course a ah-meter, wattmeter or similar. If you don't have one then use a set load, let's say you discharge at 1a for easy math, then it takes 1h till you have discharged 10%.
1a x 1h = 1ah = 10% of 10ah
