  • Post in thread: DC-Living, all DC appliances for new Tinyhouse -Offgrid project?

Are you avoiding propane all together? I wonder how many watts the 12v microwave can be? What about for a cooktop? Im new to this but have read some members say that eventually more 48v appliances will become available as more people go off grid.
  • Post in thread: Who is still building DIY batteries

Seeing people talk about JK BMS it appears they are all 20-100v. What would you guys build if doing an RV? Went to the 18650 website yesterday and lots of batteries are 30% off. Does that mean there is a chance the sale batteries have been on the shelf awhile? Or is there always a sale going...
  • Post in thread: Anyone buying these 305ah envision cells?

Was thinking a poofy pack might not be the best to go shaking down the road. Like its already injured. Other idea is the cell is already beat up, so i wont worry about shaking down the road. Also i pictured strapping them somewhat snug. Back in the day lipo batteries that puffed were...
  • Post in thread: New RV build in OC CA

First time ive heard of an AZ guy coming to OC. Lately its been the other way around. Do you bring a generator with you? With all your solar i wonder if you even need a big charger. Im in a similar boat planning mods to a trailer. Thinking of going 24v. Also thinking if solar keeps me charged...
  • Post in thread: What makes for a good mobile solar panel?

I should have specified a good panel for hot desert temps. (or cold temps too, always fun learning what works in different applications) bifacial panel thread
  • Post in thread: Balance your Milwaukee M12 batteries!

Home Depot is the spot for Milwaukee deals. The website has changed a bit they make it harder to find the SPECIAL BUY section. Scroll to the bottom and click SPECIALS AND OFFERS. Then scroll to FEATURED BRAND SAVINGS and click Milwaukee. Then click 40% OFF OR MORE.
  • Post in thread: What makes for a good mobile solar panel?

Its amazing what moves and what doesnt. The tail end of my toyhauler will launch stuff into space. While the kitchen sink area is more centered and balanced and an empty cup wont move.
  • Post in thread: Where to buy the cheapest 50w solar panel? (likely to be stolen)

Oh yeah a controller. I was picturing a stand alone trickle charger panel designed for 12v auto batteries. I have a super tiny one that came with my truck from previous owner. Forget the numbers but it wasnt enough to handle a constant 2w draw.
  • Post in thread: What size starting fuse for a 5500w Onan generator?

Im thinking about using an older 12v starting battery for my 5500watt Onan. Do most people use a terminal style fuse, and what size? Google search led to a thread on this site that said it pulls around 75a after the initial spike. The thread wasnt about fuse size though, more if his particular...
  • Post in thread: Ruuvi Bluetooth humidity sensor with Cerbo GX

Im a little surprised how their more expensive models do not measure air pressure. I see how the more expensive models have more accurate sensors installed. Thats cool. During dusty summer months i try to maintain a positive air pressure using a hepa filtered 4" blower. I also like to use the...
  • Post in thread: Where to buy the cheapest 50w solar panel? (likely to be stolen)

Im in Socal and travel up and down the freeways all the time if there is another company selling blemished panels for local pickup.
  • Post in thread: My fridge sometimes makes a loud noise when the compreasor starts

What brands do you like sir wise man? My mom has a whirlpool washing machine. Pump went out and Whirlpool didnt have one in stock. Ordered an off name brand from amazon and it finally broke after 1 year. It took whirlpool 6 months to get a pump in stock. I just put it in yesterday. The impeller...
  • Post in thread: Check out this wind design

Scaled down to something like an 4x8 sheet would be interesting.
  • Post in thread: Something I'm not getting about inverter idle consumption...

Renogy 1000w inverter. Shore power sagged to 119.4v under load and pulled 520watts. Inverter sagged to 117.3v and pulled 513w. The inverter at that time was using 529.44 w. Turned everything off and idle load is 5.78w. (lower than expected....is there maybe stored power in capacitors?) Waited 10...
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

Yeah to back up a bit i dont really plan to drive with a fan blowing in the air. Seemed cool until it didnt.
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

Or maybe i might. Not sure. I want to buy one just to play with it.
  • Post in thread: Any reason I should "not" install the physically largest panels on the roof of our travel trailer?

Funny i made a thread with a similar title. Asking if there is any reason to "not" buy bifacial panels for an RV. Majority of responses was its not a good match. Im down in the hot desert though. Heat seemed to be one of the issues. Are you planning to tilt the panels so the bottom side will...
  • Post in thread: Help picking fuse holder

Thats funny Bay Marine fuse holder is 35 cents cheaper on amazon and comes with free shipping. Just by chance im close to their shop today. Thought about driving over there. Would have cost more picking it up in person!! WayTek sure has awesome prices though. $36 before shipping. Bay Marine...
  • Post in thread: Watt meter with bluetooth and 20a rating?

Does the wifi reach pretty far? Looking at this brand or maybe TP Link.
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

Thanks again for the links. Im starting to see what makes a vertical setup tough. You need it to have enough surface area to catch low speed wind, but not blow itself apart during gusts. You know how there is regenerative braking? I dont know how it works. Can it adapt electronically? Why cant...
  • Post in thread: Replacing 12v power supply in camper with DC/DC converter

The answer to question #2 is yes. Since you're plugged into 120v might as well just keep the onboard converter. Only issue is down the road if you tow the trailer it needs a working 12v battery for the emergency brakes.
  • Post in thread: Do 200w wind generators exist?

I don't get why wind power is so non predictable. Run the system backwards and the power consumed to turn the blades is consistent right? How can the wind turn the blades and not produce consistent predictable power for the RPM its spinning?
  • Post in thread: How much power to heat water tank?

Wasnt sure where to post this. Curious how much electric power it takes to heat an RV water tank versus how much propane? I started doing some tests on my 10gal Suburban with the water starting at roughly 70F. Electric: 1.43kwh Propane: 0.1gal (196grams i hope my conversion is correct)
  • Post in thread: How to Inverter to a wall outlet with inverter that doesn't have lugs?

Its just a cover so a person or metal tool doesnt touch the lugs. Pretty sure you remove the cover, hook up your wires, put the cover back. In terms of wire size its the same everyone keeps telling you. 14awg will work. 12awg is the better choice.
  • Post in thread: 12v or 48v system in RV?

This thread helped a lot i still cant decide whether to go 12, 24 or 48. Trying to talk myself into saying 12v is fine. If the RV has a large build in generator, do most stick with 12v since they need a 12v starting battery? Also pretend the batteries can be 3 feet from the inverter and...
  • Post in thread: Constant 14.4V not OK for charging LiFePo4 batts with internal BMS?

I think it might be time based. When you first turn the non-Ad model on it attempts 14.4v constant voltage charge. If the amps exceed the maximum rating it drops down to 13.6v and holds that for something like 12 or 20 hours. That could be what happened on your bench test. It happens to me all...
  • Post in thread: New RV build in OC CA

Couldnt that be done much cheaper if its a rare occurrence?
  • Post in thread: Tilting ladder rack mount - bad idea?

I think its a cool idea. Crank one side fully down and take a pic. Does it drop along the side of the van? Only potential problem would be if the tilted panel blocks the sun for the other 2 panels laying flat. Also you mention no offroading. Might be difficult to park so that the tilting is in...

  • Post in thread: Where are the mini splits????

Had to look it up. Did they used to make little quads? 72mph is fast on a dirt bike man.
