Are you avoiding propane all together? I wonder how many watts the 12v microwave can be? What about for a cooktop?
Im new to this but have read some members say that eventually more 48v appliances will become available as more people go off grid.
Seeing people talk about JK BMS it appears they are all 20-100v.
What would you guys build if doing an RV? Went to the 18650 website yesterday and lots of batteries are 30% off. Does that mean there is a chance the sale batteries have been on the shelf awhile? Or is there always a sale going...
Was thinking a poofy pack might not be the best to go shaking down the road. Like its already injured.
Other idea is the cell is already beat up, so i wont worry about shaking down the road.
Also i pictured strapping them somewhat snug.
Back in the day lipo batteries that puffed were...
First time ive heard of an AZ guy coming to OC. Lately its been the other way around.
Do you bring a generator with you? With all your solar i wonder if you even need a big charger.
Im in a similar boat planning mods to a trailer. Thinking of going 24v.
Also thinking if solar keeps me charged...
I should have specified a good panel for hot desert temps. (or cold temps too, always fun learning what works in different applications)
bifacial panel thread
Home Depot is the spot for Milwaukee deals.
The website has changed a bit they make it harder to find the SPECIAL BUY section.
Scroll to the bottom and click SPECIALS AND OFFERS.
Then scroll to FEATURED BRAND SAVINGS and click Milwaukee.
Then click 40% OFF OR MORE.
Its amazing what moves and what doesnt. The tail end of my toyhauler will launch stuff into space.
While the kitchen sink area is more centered and balanced and an empty cup wont move.
Oh yeah a controller. I was picturing a stand alone trickle charger panel designed for 12v auto batteries. I have a super tiny one that came with my truck from previous owner. Forget the numbers but it wasnt enough to handle a constant 2w draw.
Im thinking about using an older 12v starting battery for my 5500watt Onan. Do most people use a terminal style fuse, and what size? Google search led to a thread on this site that said it pulls around 75a after the initial spike. The thread wasnt about fuse size though, more if his particular...
Im a little surprised how their more expensive models do not measure air pressure. I see how the more expensive models have more accurate sensors installed. Thats cool.
During dusty summer months i try to maintain a positive air pressure using a hepa filtered 4" blower. I also like to use the...
What brands do you like sir wise man?
My mom has a whirlpool washing machine. Pump went out and Whirlpool didnt have one in stock. Ordered an off name brand from amazon and it finally broke after 1 year. It took whirlpool 6 months to get a pump in stock. I just put it in yesterday. The impeller...
Renogy 1000w inverter.
Shore power sagged to 119.4v under load and pulled 520watts.
Inverter sagged to 117.3v and pulled 513w.
The inverter at that time was using 529.44 w.
Turned everything off and idle load is 5.78w. (lower than expected....is there maybe stored power in capacitors?)
Waited 10...
Funny i made a thread with a similar title. Asking if there is any reason to "not" buy bifacial panels for an RV.
Majority of responses was its not a good match. Im down in the hot desert though. Heat seemed to be one of the issues.
Are you planning to tilt the panels so the bottom side will...
Thats funny Bay Marine fuse holder is 35 cents cheaper on amazon and comes with free shipping. Just by chance im close to their shop today. Thought about driving over there. Would have cost more picking it up in person!!
WayTek sure has awesome prices though. $36 before shipping. Bay Marine...
Thanks again for the links. Im starting to see what makes a vertical setup tough. You need it to have enough surface area to catch low speed wind, but not blow itself apart during gusts.
You know how there is regenerative braking? I dont know how it works. Can it adapt electronically?
Why cant...
The answer to question #2 is yes. Since you're plugged into 120v might as well just keep the onboard converter.
Only issue is down the road if you tow the trailer it needs a working 12v battery for the emergency brakes.
I don't get why wind power is so non predictable. Run the system backwards and the power consumed to turn the blades is consistent right?
How can the wind turn the blades and not produce consistent predictable power for the RPM its spinning?
Wasnt sure where to post this. Curious how much electric power it takes to heat an RV water tank versus how much propane? I started doing some tests on my 10gal Suburban with the water starting at roughly 70F.
Electric: 1.43kwh
Propane: 0.1gal (196grams i hope my conversion is correct)
Its just a cover so a person or metal tool doesnt touch the lugs.
Pretty sure you remove the cover, hook up your wires, put the cover back.
In terms of wire size its the same everyone keeps telling you. 14awg will work. 12awg is the better choice.
This thread helped a lot i still cant decide whether to go 12, 24 or 48. Trying to talk myself into saying 12v is fine.
If the RV has a large build in generator, do most stick with 12v since they need a 12v starting battery?
Also pretend the batteries can be 3 feet from the inverter and...
I think it might be time based. When you first turn the non-Ad model on it attempts 14.4v constant voltage charge. If the amps exceed the maximum rating it drops down to 13.6v and holds that for something like 12 or 20 hours. That could be what happened on your bench test. It happens to me all...
I think its a cool idea. Crank one side fully down and take a pic. Does it drop along the side of the van?
Only potential problem would be if the tilted panel blocks the sun for the other 2 panels laying flat.
Also you mention no offroading. Might be difficult to park so that the tilting is in...
