Units moderator. There should be a units moderator assigned.

I'm not volunteering.

I have to say that I fairly often view threads and then just close them and move on when the units used are all incorrect.

The point isn't to be a stickler and pain the the ass and not help people that don't understand. If someone is asking for help and they have their units all screwed up then help is less likely. The poster needs some help understanding the units used in this trade/hobby and getting them right and understanding them IS helping them.

If there are a variety of moderators maybe one can be tasked to nuke posts with incorrect units and help posters get the units right before posting to forums.

I know there are other threads on units.

Anyway. Pura Vida. Lots of insolation here in Costa Rica right now.

I tried in one thread where Kw and Kwhr were interchanged. The OP knew of the issue and didn’t care kept using the wrong one. It wasn’t vital to the thread but still frustrating to read.

After that I kinda gave up, people are gonna do what they are gonna do.

At least others reading the thread might take something away from it.

Most of the time, someone (me included) will make a post in the thread pointing out the correct units.
(y) Yep... @MisterSandals and I help with that a lot too. I think education is best, then hopefully others can pick up on the corrections and one day we'll end up with a lot less occurrences of the Kelvin-Watt-hour.

Why do we ignore kWd, kWm or kWs? Watts are so elusive if you do not give a time scale. Than there is that pesky ah. Should it not be Vah where V =voltage the amps are measured at? Than we have the metric conversions where you have to guess that a certain wire awg size is equal to some odd metric area size.

Units are so confusing it would take a thousand moderators to keep them right. Or 1 moderator reading a thousand posts. Or would that be 1.5 Mods reading ~666 posts?

No, absolutely not. That's the reason for using Ah in the first place: it completely takes the voltage (and losses) out of the equation when e.g. doing a capacity test.

The Ah by the way is not a measure of energy, it's a measure of charge (Faraday's law: Q = I x t).

Than we have the metric conversions where you have to guess that a certain wire awg size is equal to some odd metric area size.

Same the other way around :)

My experience with working with other DIYers is that most DIYers understand concept better than terminology.
We can correct them all day long, and should, but it doesn't change what they are trying to do.

I am personally against any form of free speech control. We all have learned through our mistakes. Correct and move on. Remember there are many "lurkers" in this forum. In my opinion it is also good to learn from others mistakes. I know I have.

You know, you can educate and help people at the same time. I think what gets lost is that, if you don't come from an electrical background, you are not as likely to know the proper terminology. If you don't use it all the time, you are less likely to retain it. I'm very skilled in concept, very capable of creating and building things. Yet, I don't know all the proper terms in the areas I've worked.

kW (power) vs kWh (energy) is critical to understanding what you're up to. However calling people out who use KWh is just plain bonkers, only adds confusion.

Power and energy are very similar to me, and likely a lot of people. I think if you are familiar with electric, you see those words as differently as most people see black and red cables on a battery.

They are vastly different though, and for many new people we see there, a lot of the confusion comes from not understanding the difference. Once the difference is cleared up, it's like a 'click' and things come together much easier.
