Hi all! I was wondering if anyone out there knew when to use which type of conduit? Right now I plan to have trunk cables land in a junction box either on the roof or on the facia board. From there I was planing to use Ultratite Liquidtight flexible pvc conduit to run from the junction box down to the combiner. Then across the outside wall to the disconnect switch next to the meter. from there inside to the main panel.

Is there anypart of this process where code says you have to use EMT vs PVC or some other kind of conduit im not even aware of?

Thanks to anyone that spends the time to read this!

Even if PVC is allowed on the roof (not sure if it is), it gets sunburned.
I'd suggest using PVC just for underground. And it is used for the riser coming out of the ground, but it would be good to block sun from that.

I perused the 2023 code book and it looks like it is allowed. I had not, however, considered UV damage. The west side of the house gets pounded with sun in the afternoon. I will look into using metal. I will have to buy a conduit bender. Wont be the end of the world though.

What @Hedges said... only where buried would I use PVC.

Here at the house where the builder brought the electrical up out of the ground in PVC I spray painted it brown with the 'plasticote' paint - bonds chemically with the PVC and protects it from UV.

And in the great rabbit hole of electric, you have to make sure the conduit doesn't sit on the roof, and you need to derate the conductors because they will be in a hotter environment, and oversize the conduit because of the higher temps and larger conductors.

Or somethign like that.

It is a big PITA to get it all "right"

DC in the structure must be in metal.

I believe you can only use flex for 6 feet, unsupported, not sure about how often you have to support it beyond that distance.

I blocked everything I learned last year, because the rules were so infuriating.
