I am really excited about the EG4 hybrid mini split. I have access to shore power AC and room for a lot of panels. I like being able to scale up the panels as I 'wean off' AC. However I only have access to a 15 amp AC breaker. I see the EG4 12,000 BTU has a minimum circuit ampacity of 19.05A and the rated cooling / heating is 8.1 and 8.3 A.
Can I get away with just a 15 amp breaker (aside from going 100% solar / DC)? Can I program the unit to limit amp draw? Is this "minimum circuit ampacity" just a safety factor over rated heating/cooling amp draw? Worst case is that I end up tripping the breaker, right?
Can I limit the unit to only use AC power for command/control/pre-heat but never run the compressor off AC? I did read the manual, but it isn't very clear on this. Their site says "AC grid power limiter Limit AC power from 0-600W" but the manual only mentions "By DC Solar and a small amount of AC power" and an "AC power limiter" setting on the remote. But it doesn't contain any info on how this feature works or how I can set the max AC power. Reading other posts here it seems like AC limiter is an on/off thing with no configuration and that I have to turn it back on every day.
If this isn't an option, are there other hybrid mini splits with a lower amp requirement? 30 minutes of searching didn't find anything.
