If I were building from scratch using the aluminum cells with the blue wrap this shelf lining is what I would use between the cells.
old post but i would like to ask,is it necessary to use a material between the cells?
Thank you.
so ,if there not vibrations in not necessary to add a layer between the cells ,am i right? for example my battery pack is for home use ,so it will be fixed peace of equipment. There is some thought that in a mobile environment the vibration can cause the wrapper on the cells to deteriorate. The additional cell separator is insurance against that.

I'm wondering the same thing, have yet to find any information about what kind of alarming damage people are seeing from 'raw' cells being compressed together, much less of an actual failure linked to this.old post but i would like to ask,is it necessary to use a material between the cells?

Well, it could have been a contributor to the "house burned down" thread; initially the cells had been installed without a separator which may have led to damage.I'm wondering the same thing, have yet to find any information about what kind of alarming damage people are seeing from 'raw' cells being compressed together, much less of an actual failure linked to this.
I had a swollen cell today in a smaller battery I had at my house today that was not part of a mobile installation. I had no idea why it swelled. I can crush it into shape with my hands.so ,if there not vibrations in not necessary to add a layer between the cells ,am i right? for example my battery pack is for home use ,so it will be fixed peace of equipment.
I used Neoprene 1 mm thick, so its compressed to less when thick. I've also used cutting board. Lately, I bought them with my cells. These are the epoxy fiberglass insulation sheets that I got with my last order. I'll hold my opinion on cork, only because I don't know.what is your opinion about cork between the cells? about 1mm or 1.5mm .
Ordered white cutting board mats here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334131406675?var=543137963324
Unfortunately they didn't arrive in time - I wanted to get my pack built, so I used VHB tape. Super happy with how it worked out.
Someone mentioned they thought the 3M tape was too permanent, however a piece of mono-filament fishing line does a good job of cutting right through adhesive tape - that's how you get unwanted body trim off a car or truck.
I like that the tape immobilizes the cells for mobile use, insulates the cases from each other, plus provides a little cushion in compression.
The boards finally did arrive and they're really nice - so there's one in the kitchen and one in the motorhome galley. LOL
I think they would have worked out really well, and would surely have used them had I had them on hand.

VHB instead...and I put a sheet of 1/8" rubber on the bottom:
