Anyone else install a new eg4 6000xp that emits a strong mold smell? It's been running for about a month and still smells bad.

I put a small space heater under my shed last winter …as it was damp and dank down there , it had a mildew smell when I brought it out that spring… I had to run it on high heat a couple of days to burn off the residue and the smell …
I would be curious where it was stored and how ,before you got it……I have seen stereo and PA speaker develop this trait if stored in a poor/ damp condition warehouse or stockroom that wasnt climate controled..

Get it hot..see what happens ..

Some of the used shipping containers I looked at when buying were pretty musty smelling. Could be from shipping.

it has been in the low 90's in that room for the last week , no change.
Nope, mine smelled like beautiful electrons.
mine produces beautiful electrons, and runs a lot cooler than the 2 eg4 3k inverters it replaced, but it stinks!

weird thing is that the box it came in is clean and no stink, the plastic bag wrap has a slight odor. the odor seems to come from inside the casing, hope it's not a dead mouse or something .

Sad to hear that.

There is a foam filter on the right side under 4 tiny screws.
It would be my guess that if nasty things were to be growing, they would be all over that part.

Remove and clean filter.

Might put a dehumidifier in the closet with it for a week.
I would assume that if you can smell it, it's slowly burning off.
More heat, or dehumidification, will hopefully speed up the process.
put a couple bags of carbon filtrate inside the room. APParently, i'm the only lucky one, who got the stinky unit. Fortunately, l don't need to spend much time in there, now that the computer monitor is working, and all the wiring is cleaned up. This 6000xp is definetly running a lot cooler than the 3k's were, the room temp today is 86 and the outside temp is 97. it used to stay at least 5 degrees hotter than outside. Not having the inverters overheat is a big improvement.

If its actual mold or pretty much anything else "alive" this will kill it :

This is similar to the ozone generator I bought (mine seems to be discontinued now) a few years ago. I used it to kill off mold in vehicles that were stored long term. Kills mold and removes smells. Make sure to vent the area after using it. I used it on an old house once and made sure to open windows and air it out after I used it.

Interesting concept, of course like many products, it will not ship to CA.., we seem to be "special",

Perhaps for a good reason!

【WARNING】All ozone machines are for UNOCCUPIED space only. Ensure that NO people and NO animals in the room when it's working. Opening the door and window for air ventilation at least 30 minutes, then allowed to enter the room.

Like I said if its alive that thing will kill it :)

Is it like anything you can describe?
The air after a nice lighting storm and downpour.

I used one for a while to get rid of odors when I bought the house, it worked great. I would turn the timer for about 15 minutes of run time and quickly head out the door for work. 10-12 hours later there was very slight smell from it.

Be very careful with ozone, to much is bad for life. It will also damage rubber, electronics and can kill some plants over time.
I did a fair amount of homework before using it, I felt it was the lesser of the evils for getting rid of odors / mold.
