Don't have EG4 products, and not sure I'll ever buy any, but ...
Nice User (quick start) Guide. It has these nifty parts:
- abbreviations page ... no more WTF abbreviations
- troubleshooting ... looks like every fault code has real, associated troubleshooting steps
- no difficult "english" phrasing
Also has:
- installer/customer-code section, so I guess this item could be tracked (& possibly locked?) by an installer ... bummer
I still note for the record that when you buy EG4, you get no support from EG4 themselves, and will have to rely on the warranty, support/rma processes of their distributors (Signature Solar, Current Connected, etc.). So, if I dig into SigSolar's support processes, I have to go to the FAQ page, and read through the "tech support" and "rma" sections to understand how support will happen.
Basically, a tiered system of tech support (levels 1,2,3) and the "tech bench team" beyond them, if the product gets returned, and the tech bench team has final say (prob found, prob not found).
This is perhaps not unlike many other product support systems these days, but do note that you'll have to "prove" your installation skills (lots of documented pics, test, etc.) as part of the "getting help" process, and there would seem to be many ways that your installation could be disallowed, because you've documented everything for them.
This is interesting in the day and age of complex electrical devices, where I'd think that it:
- either works or fails internally, tells you what failed and what the resolution is, and is easy to get replacement parts or is cross-shippable
- is protected from external failure by its design, and doesn't require all these proofs (installation pics, etc.)
I still don't think I could buy an EG4 product, without committing a serious chunk of money to my own test process, and testing the heck out of it and all of their processes ... to get to the point where I could run my electrical system in a 24x7 scenario, as I do now with the Magnum equipment (I have a pre-wired 4024). So, not sure what I'd replace the magnum equipment with, if it ever fails.
