4/0 wire to inverter getting hot

Have you considered bus bars, and make the lug connections outside of the inverter?

Why not just double some 2/0 and be done with it? That is what it was designed for.

Aluminum lugs for copper wire? Why not get copper lugs?
not an issue at all to file down the lugs so they fit in that tight spot.
Could you just put both wires into one big lug and bolt on once? err, I guess that would make working on it hard.

Yes, it is a 5th wheel RV.

They are tinned copper lugs. Would never use aluminum lugs.
 
Have you tried to fit 4 pieces of 4/0 into the inverter's cable slot?
Yes, not so much. The knock outs will not work well with a single good quality 4/0 with adhesive shrink wrap. And why the connections below the main feeds, wapita.
