When It comes to getting ready for an EMP, there are a few things one can do.
1) Build a Faraday cage. You can use a metal garbage can as a start. Line inside of can with cardboard and use Aluminum tape to seal any holes or punctures. Also, go over seams on can with Aluminum duct tape. Get very ferraday bag and inserted it into can like garbage bag liner.
2) Get extra MPPT controllers, keep in box and wrap like a gift 5 times, same with AC/DC Inverters. See what type or rating your solar panels have for Diodes can get extras. Also get extra BMS's for batteries, keep in box and wrap 5 times.
Make list of all items going into ferraday can. Place all items into can. Heat seal bag with curling iron or heat gun. Be very very careful doing this.
Make sure lid fits tightly and use Aluminum tape to seal edge around can.
This is what I'm doing. Making sure I can recover and have extras on hand in Ferraday cages...
REMEMBER: YOU HAVE 1 CHANCE TO SURVIVE AN EMP ATTACK.

On my solar panels and wire rings from panels and on all electrical gear I have ferrites all over.

I also have had installed Siemens FS140 Whole house surge protector as extra protection...
Yup, I approached this with a belt and suspenders attack. Over kill is better then getting hit.

IMO, if we have some large scale EMP event that requires Faraday cages in your home, there will be much bigger issues to worry about.

EMP = IF you survived that long, the worries about seeing tomorrow will be Priority #1. Expecting to be nuked soon ?
CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) happen all the time, some hit the planet surface and cause damage to electricals. A Faraday Cage etc can sort that stuff and a CME will NOT fry your friends & family & neighbours, or contaminate your water, crops or livestock.

I guess the issue is how long to wait after first EMP before bringing out the protected gear and then perhaps losing it to second follow up EMP.

Yes! This.

Anyone with malevolent intentions would pop one off and then wait days or weeks and pop another off.

Picture this; Emp hits, you have protected equipment, lights, running water, heat and so on how long untill your community turn on you? Best equip yourself and train your whole family to use a gun also invite as many trusted family and friends as you can and arm them also, the masses will come and pillage you that's a fact.

I rely on CCTV to turn on/off lights and open/close our electric gate,security wise I don't lock or fortify anything the CCTV would do jack I just feed 14 large dogs instead come break in it's easy you won't need to pick a lock or smash a window.

I think key is maintaining a low profile, i.e. blackout mode. Curtains closed, no exterior lights etc.

Having looked into faraday cages and a whole range of potential preparations, it's just not anywhere near practical beyond putting a few things in sealed container to feel better.

On the other hand, looking at EMP preparedness - there are degrees. For example, I live in Southern Oregon and the nearest big cities (likely EMP targets) are Portland 275miles and San Fran Bay Area ~300miles. So moving to a weaker EMP zone might let you live a while

Only thing I would say though is this would also be a bit suspicious to anyone with an once of intelligence, likely a mixture of blackout with some subterfuge would be best, say one room with a candle or a led flicker light posing as a candle but let's face it if an emp hit the area is going to turn into a max max movie your gonna want to weld ar plate to your windows and add a flame turret to your balcony.

A microwave is a Faraday cage .

So import stuf like a phone , radio , battery ,walkytalky and a id card .

You stick in dare and if you are a life you can use it.

A emp charge burst go miles for it thake of
A phone connection can be make if you miles away again
A id card is of you are dead and your body burn like hell.
So people know that you are dead for the family .
Thare will always in the future that people go looking in those space
De data on the phone can help them in the future to.

One thing I know about living in a (very rural) area is that everyone for miles around knows where I am and what I have. Any time you have a contractor, service person, friend visit it spreads like wildfire. Ironically, rural folks are probably the easy pickins...
