REC BMS on default settings and Lifepo4 Batteries

if you have a photo looking down on the wi fi board plug that would be helpful to see if other wires were switched. Thanks George
I can take a picture but my connector can have different wire colors on different pins, but you can check both sides of the cable (the metal DB9 connector can be easily disassembled, as well as the white plastic one)

In the REC BMS module manual you have the pins for BMS plug (the numbers on the picture below is as you see them when you look at the DB9 socket on the BMS, not on the cable itself):

and then on the wifi module you have the wiring for it's plug:

just look if the wire colors are the same on both sides (e.g. Pin2 on the BMS connector and pin 9 on the WIFI module connector ... etc)

Hope my english is understandable...my apologies if not.

... and you also need to power the wifi module with some DC 10V+ power supply, not to forget...

Thank you very much I'm going to dig back into i was afraid that one of those tiny resistors were broken but thanks for the diagrams those really help.

Ahoj Jakub snazim sa presne o to iste uz mam solarne panely na streche a (zatial) 8x280Ah LifePO4 clanky a pozeram ci to budeme vediet pouzit ak si kupim ten REC BMS s Victronom. Pocodny plan bol Daly a cinsky integrovany invertor/MPPT ale rozmyslel som si to. Podarilo sa Ti to rozchodit nakoniec?

Ahoj.

REC mozem odporucit. Vnimam ich skor ako taky startup. Su mi sympaticki.

What??

Just a summary of what has happened so far on this and mine thread regarding the REC/Victron. @Cafesitter is considering a Victron / REC purchase to couple with his Lifepo4 battery pack.

Translation:

Hi. That was also my flood plan. I still have data, panels and a Chinese inverter in the box as another project :)

REC BMS works well, I found it as a recommendation on the victron forum and I wrote directly to the Slovenians in REC, they sent it to me with DHL. The only more serious problem was the faulty cable, which I finally solved. So far I have released approx. a week and something, in this fiber you have the whole history. I cleaned the contacts on Friday, the resistance is less now. I'm waiting for sunny days to let the flashlight charge 100%.

I must point out that I am a complete beginner, I have had Victron with SLA for the third year, but only in the winter I began to take an active interest in it and study the issue ... I can recommend REC. I see them sooner as well as a startup. I'm nice to me.

Exactly :)

However I am right now strugling with my REC. I again received Error 15 when charged to 100% and even when I switched the BMS on and off one cell went to 3.68V for a while. Had to do several restarts for the alarm not to turn on again. I turned my water boiler on so I have some drain.

I have now decreased Balancing start voltage to 3.2V and End of Charging to 3.5V.

Am I on the right path?

Hi,

What are you using to connect the CanBus to - a Cerbo GX?

Hi,

What are you using to connect the CanBus to - a Cerbo GX?
I've got a Venus GX. It also reports high voltage (and low voltage once BMS disconnects), but those alarms clear themselves. The problem is the BMS. Once it throws Error 15 it disconnects the charging and I am not always around to restart it. Hopefully it gets better with more cycles... if not I am going to bug the REC guys again.

Error 15 is CanBus communication rate. Are you sure it is communicating properly?

On a Venus you should have a VE.Can port and a CAN2. Which are you using to the REC and what is it set to inside the Victron UI? It's under the services menu.

Using the REC WiFi interface go into Firmware tab, and right below the SD card capacity you will see "manual commands" -- you will need to enter your S/N to unlock before you get this option.

Send the command:

Address = 2
Command = CANF?

What does it say? That is the baud rate the REC is set to communicate at. It must match the Venus GX.

15ABMS CAN bus communication baud rate errorSet CAN baud rate is not correct. Use PC Control Software to set proper settings. 100k, 125k, 200k, 250k, 500k or 1M may be set.

Good point, you are right. 15 number of beeps is the transistor failure.

I have set up the Venus GX according to REC Manual (250kB/s). Venus is detecting the REC and reporting correct values. my BMS is plugged into VE.CAN 1 (the top port when you are looking on the Venus GX front side)

Answer on CANF? command is 1.

Something is wrong.....

15 "Red blinks" should be CANBUS baud rate error according to the ABMS Canbus manual.

CANF? valid settings are unsigned integer value 100, 125, 200, 250, 500 or 1000

So it is odd as it looks like it is communicating; but the command is reporting something that doesn't make sense.

I am watching it closely, it did it again. One cell went over 3.65 and it started to throw alerts.

This is how the GUI looked like shortly before

This is the error from the REC LCD. Seems that once BMS goes into that alert, it does not recover. Manual restart is needed.
