Epever 2215 vs Victron 100/20 SC

I know that the Victron can stop charging to avoid damage when the temp gets to freezing, but not sure about the Epever. I’m sure it says “somewhere”, but tend to get bogged down in the weeds easily. Will someone please compare these two SC’s for me, especially about charging at freezing protection. I will probably buy products for my van solar system from only one supplier and may wait until Black Friday to buy it all at once since my Ampere Time 24 volt battery won’t be delivered until mid November anyway.

I have lead acid so didn’t pay attention but I believe the epever mppt have temp sensors that trigger low temp charging shutdown.

Mine has a temp sensor; it is also set to “flooded” so the low-temp shutdown ain’t in the menu for me, but it does vary output based on temperature.

The manual is linked from Amazon and udder places. I’d get to reading.

OK - I’ll search for the manual. I’ve already found a Triron 2210N which claims to be new and improved at $110. So might as well look closely at all 3. Can’t be any more confusing…

OK, I sent a message to an Epever dealer on eBay. He said the 2215N will not stop charging a lifepo4 battery if the temperature drops to 0 Celsius. It seems really stupid for manufacturers to not protect against a threat which will probably destroy the battery - but then again, look at all the batteries they get to sell this way. It would seem like the Daly BMS would correct the problem but I guess that’s why they glue up the batteries.

A Victron mppt with a Victron BMV712 or Smartshunt will stop the charging at whatever temp you select (you need to network them together via Bluetooth in the settings). It pulls the temp from the BMV712 or Smartshunt.

I thought that the Victron mppt could use the Smart Sense to do the same thing. Was going to order the mppt 100/20 on Friday with the smart sense but should I get the smart shunt instead?

The Smartshunt gives you a LOT of needed info on your battery- mainly how full it is - For me, this is super important! It is hard to know how full lithium’s are by voltage.

If I remember correctly, the temperature wire was extra.

New Epever SSCs across various models have updated firmware that has Lifepo4 functionality including low temperature charging protection

The link I’ve originally posted seems to be currently broken.

Worth checking manual downloads from the epever website. You should see low temp cut off.

Also Epever support have been relatively quick to respond to my queries

I bought the Victron SmartSolar 100/20 and the Smart Sense. They should be delivered next Monday. Meanwhile, my battery should be delivered today. It’s nice to get past these hurdles and get started building the van interior. Thanks for all of the advice I’m getting from this forum. Reassurance takes all of the pressure off since now I can blame someone else, lol.

Now I’m worried again. I bought a Victron 100/20 for a single 24v 100ah battery with the intent to add a duplicate battery when I can afford it. Will I have to replace the Victron when I add the 2nd battery, even though I won’t add more panels?

If I understand your question then no, not another controller. The second battery just means that the SCC will take twice the time to recharge the batteries as it would charging one battery.
