Master switch for PV side?

Hi,

just one quick newbie question:

Is anybody putting a master switch also on the PV line from the solar panels to the MPPT controller? Or is that an unnecessary item?

Using a master breaker which is also my switch. Either way, I think it's a very good idea.

Normally, a "Combiner" with breakers serves that purpose (dual purpose actually) as not only a safety but also a shutdown for the panels.

That's the best way, of course. For small RV systems, the combining of parallel panels could take place on the roof, with individual fuses being common. But a master switch or breaker down below is very useful.

I asked that question too, was guided to use a 2P breaker for isolation.

The theory, I suppose, is that both + and - are floating/hot, and can potentially generate voltages against ground, so both wires should be protected and switched. That's the safest.
