I have a bluetti Solar generator (50s) that uses an 8mm barrel connector to charge from the vehicle and also another one for the solar panel which is a fold up 120w. The barrel connector has gone bad that charges from the vehicle. The one on the panel seems fine. The panel connects from the barrel to mc4 cables. My question is can I safely cut the wires on the panel cable before those mc4’s and wire in an sae connector. This would allow me to use the same barrel connector from my vehicle and Solar. Currently only option to charge is Solar so it’s an issue with big driving days. Also. I’m apprehensive cutting the only wire that works. Thanks.

Yes. Just make sure the polarity is correct. If it were me, I would just change the 7909 (8mm) connector. You could also purchase another cigarette lighter to 7909 (8mm) connector. If you get a new one and repair the old one, then you would have a spare.

I agree that’s the best plan. I just can’t seem to source an 8mm connector anywhere out on the road. Do you have any idea where I could find one? I even found a radio shack. Nothing. Thanks for the advice. Still on the road for another week.

Just search "7909 adaptor", or "connector". Can also search "8mm adaptor" or "connector" on Amazon. They have some options will "hopefully" suit your needs.

I will definitely do that when I get home. Would still like to be able to find the stuff I need for the rest of the week or more camping without access to internet orders.
