Hi all.
Just wondering if anyone can help. Just set up my new Solis 5 G Hybrid Inverter. But having an issue battery will charge but won't discharge when needed. It will show it's discharging but only a few watts! Can anyone help I guess it's a setting issue.
Thanks

I look forward to any replies as I am facing the same issue. The batteries have reached 100% and then when the house demands som power, it comes from the grid. My system does seem to use some battery power overnight, but it is certainly pulling kW from the grid when it doesn’t need to. My system has been running just over a week.

Hi What battery are you using?

5 x Pylontech US2000C.

The electrician who installed it has passed the issue to “head office” because he says the Inverter needs a software update, so currently waiting for a response.

Hi,
I have the same exact problem, batteries discharge max at 0,41 kWh

And me too! Just wired in my 5kw 48volt Solis hybrid with 48 volt lead acid and 2800w of solar. At this stage I don't intend to connect it to the mains supply.. It brought the battery up to 56 or so volts good enough for me but I can't get any juice out of the AC back-up outlet, annoying as it's sunny and I have a full battery doing nowt and a load in the washing machine. I hope that this can only be a settings issue. There's a fortune awaiting a travelling Solis Guru to come and sort our machines out! I have used one of the generic £800-odd cheapies in the past, blissfully painless setup, virtually plug and play until they go wrong and no-one can fix them making them disposable hence buying the Solis...
Any ideas please, and if there happens to be someone that does know these things inside out on the Isle of Man then there a pint or three in it for him or her :)

Not sure if this will help =>

Check the battery max discharge current. If it resets back to 8A after you change it then go back and look. then change it to custom battery , then change the charge current to whatever value you need = 50A say, then set it back to pylontech and it will keep the new value.
This came up on a facebook group yesterday. Hope it helps

I also have a Solis 5kW hybrid inverter and 5 pylontech batteries. The batteries were charging and discharging fine until a week or two ago, and now hardly discharge at all - very similar to the other posts on this forum. Wish I could find an easy way to sort this out

If all the settings on the Solis regarding discharge limits are set OK, how about connecting an RS232 console to the master Pylontech battery to view the battery's status and/or see if there are any clues as to why the battery may be limiting output?

Also the 2nd page (IIRC) of the Solis info screen shows basic data received from the battery.

FWIW - I think the solis has a mode where it stores energy incase of power loss - i.e. never uses it unless it detects a power cut scenario.
Prioritising keeping the batteries full.

Have your inverters dropped into that mode?

Thanks for helpful suggestions, where might I start to look for an RS232 console?, what sort of engineer is likely to have one of those?.
The second or third page of the Solis info screen shows all the battery settings are 'normal, but that is discharging 0 Amps. I will send a screen shot

You could also try specifying a discharge period if you're using the system entirely off-grid, which in your case might possibly be relevant (not relevant in my case, so I deleted the example discharge time period in this photo):

Thanks Richard. We are actually in a power cut here in Nairobi right now, and the house is actually able to draw current from the inverter, but only as much as the sun shines, and it is cloudy, so I can only reliably run a few low power things (like the internet I am using to write this!). But no matter what the demands of the house, with zero grid power, the Indicator on the main screen shows the battery being charged at 0 amps, with the arrow pointing to the battery. Yes, there numerous confusing settings to set a battery reserve which will be kept in case of a power cut, I think mine is set to 30%, but battery right now shows 45% charge, so it ought to discharge when there is a demand, but it does not

Thanks, yes, tried that as well! made absolutely no difference! I now have the same screen as you, but until a few days ago, when my HMI software was updated, I only had one charge time and one discharge time option. Do you know what that first line means? Optimal Income: Run or Stop - that also seems to make no difference on my system whtehr it is set to Run or Stop - stop what?

The strange thing is, as I sit here during a total power cut, watching my Solis screen - although the main screen now shows the battery neither charging or discharging anything, and the state of charge is static at 45%, I am able to draw 1kw or so from my solar panels to run my house essentials, BUT when I pull my battery isolator switch off, the inverter stays on, but no current at all is drawn from the panels, although there is sun, and under normal conditions the inverter would be pulling 2.5kw from the panels. So the inverter is 'seeing' the batteries in some way, and seems to need them to be there and connected, even though the screen shows no current flowing from them or to them.

But is that 'Discharge Time' the time that discharge is 'allowed' - when there is a demand for power, or, as I think was the case with my old screen (without the three different time options), setting discharge time to say 30 minutes would actually FORCE the inverter to discharge the batteries (in to the grid if there was little demand from the house), just emptying the battery. I recall that the UK Solis engineer who used totalk to me actually told me to do this deliberately a year or so ago to check on some problem. I also believe/believed that on the old system if you left all the times for charge and discharge at 00:00 the system would just be on 'auto' with charging or discharging happening as required, but now the menus have changed (any idea if there is a manual anywhere explanining the new menus?)

I had a similar problem when I first switched my Solis 5G system on. The meter type was wrong. As soon as I changed to the Eastron 1ph meter it all came to life. However I still have a problem in that the Solis does not route the excess power from my existing PV system to the battery.
