Hi everyone I wanted to discuss charging. I want to use the EG4 lifepod 48v 100Ah battery. These battery's are connected to the EG4 6500EX inverter with an option to connect to grid for using grid power input to top them off if needed on a low sun day.
Is using this set up ok, and will it work with no problem? Or does using a dedicated charger that's an extra $200 a must?
I don't see a problem using grid power, but everyone I look up on the tube has a dedicated 48v charger.
Any input on this, and pros and cons?

Thanks.......

I'll never understand why people buy a dedicated charger when they've already got an inverter/charger bolted to the wall.
The 6500 is both an inverter and charger and if you hook up the grid input.

Unless, you've got no confidence in the EG4 as a charger, then you might want to purchase a separate charger or rethink the entire equipment choice.

my thoughts exactly, I ran grid to top off but did not use any loads at that time. I have yet to try it with a generator. Do you know if that would do the same? I'm guessing it will, but I rather not kill my system with experimenting on it. I should just leave it along and use it.

In theory, it should work with a generator. But if you want to rely on the generator in case of emergency, you should read the manual and test functionality.
