Adding batteries in parallel

What is the risk of not topping off batteries before adding them in parallel to an existing bank?

The Battery with a higher level of charge will Dump hard to the lower voltage battery and sometimes if the voltage difference is too much, that dump could exceed the capability of the BMS'.

It is also more prudent to install a new battery into a bank when you have a good respectable charge input coming in, so that will supplement any "backcharge" for the battery if it has a lower voltage.
