My build thread

What is that, a new inverter? Kinda looks like that Megarevo/EG4/Vestwoods 8K unit
Yes, a new toy.
GSL-7.6k
AKA Deye 8k .
120v/240v split-phase
Going to the Derby today? My wife is making Derby Pie now, and earlier cooked a small turkey breast for Hot Brown's for supper. Mmmm..
Not this year.
I'm actually working on the system. Building battery shelves.
What time is dinner? ?
I've been out on the tractor disking our garden plots, it's been a warm sunny day here in the Appalachian foothills.
Nice day here too.
Which is great for the Derby.
I could almost hit Churchill with a rock from my property.

She said you're welcome to have some supper, it's just about 150mi, if y'all want to come over. Better hurry, she's about to start assembling the sammiches.

I've been filling in the PV trench, lots of work, ought to hook the tractor up and level it out with the grader blade. I'll be officially done with this project when I finish this task up. Unless I get batteries. And more panels.

Yeah, warm and dry for the Derby seems to be more the exception than the rule. Have you been to the race before?

New shelves? Didya get some more cells?

How did you score a Deye inverter? I didn't think you could buy one in the states. Are you going to switch out your Growatts with it?

I'll be interested in how that unit goes and if control with Solar Assistant works well.

I have it in the back of my mine that a Deye 8kW would be a good replacement replace my EASun 8kW (an MPP 8048-MAX equivalent) if/when it goes belly up (hopefully not a for a long time). Deye is sold locally here. Not cheap but much a higher quality unit. Single phase 230 V here, not split phase.

I wish I could.

There's always something more. lol

Yes, I went to the Derby for 35 years straight.
Finally decided that it wasn't as fun as it used to be.

New shelves now, for the batteries that will come.
But need to move two, now. To make room for the newly designed setup.

Found the Deye on the marketplace.
It's for a future project, maybe.
Or just something to play around with.
Growatt's aren't going anywhere. Haven't found a better option for my system.

Single phase is my choice of equipment.
But this was more of a collectors item purchase.
Actually bought two, but UPS has misplaced one.
Hopefully it's found, soon.

...Like hearing your satisfaction with your Growatt's. I can't wait to get two installed, Off-Grid.

Well, we had our Hot Brown's and then some Derby Pie. After eating one of those, I can get why you only eat them once a year. Ugh. But oh so good. See pics.

That's cool you went all those years, guess living next door makes it easier. My wife, who's the Kentuckian, said she's never been.

Are you pretty much off grid now?

Looks yummy.
I'm about half way off grid, so far.

Wow. So just Solar wired to Battery bank wired to Hotspot?
I believe you would need a charge controller in that situation. So it would be PV to SCC to Hotspot. I don't know anything about a Hotspot but if it's running directly off a 48v battery bank then this would work. You wouldn't have to have an inverter. That seems like a waste to me since adding the inverter would give you AC power as well, but I guess it depends on the situation and your needs.

I think it's best if you don't want to upgrade the inverter and don't want to sacrifice other essentials to run the A/C.

Shipping costs can really take a big bite out of budgets for sure. I drove the 6 hours to Savannah last year to pickup more Panels to save. Worth the trip.
Were your Battery Cells from a private buy, or through a vendor? Any great deals out there?

Got one more battery connected to the system.
And did I wait for the voltages to be similar?
Nope lol
I just turned it on, and let'er rip. I wanted to get it charged while the sun was still shining. Jumped to 260a for half a second. Then quickly fell off to 70a.
After 10 minutes, it's cruising along at 35a. That's all that the sun can give right now. It's 6pm, here.

Andy from Off-Grid-Garage has done a video on paralleling 2 batteries of wildly different SOC. Not much happened. It wasn't a spectacular light show like a lot of people make it out to seem.
