I am just curious. Has anyone built their own fuse box?

I was shopping around on amazon and ebay, searching for a cheap 4 to 6 fuse setup but man they are expansive. Today I thought, maybe I could build one if it wouldn't be as expansive than purchasing one.

If you built one, how did you do it and do you have photos of the build and process. Thank you.

Depends on what you want to do with it. The important thing is the right fuse specifications, and touch-safe if higher voltages so you can be relaxed when working.

Combiner:
I had bought a used box on eBay a while back and rearranged it. It is a 4X plastic box with DIN rail on an aluminum plate, and some touch-safe fuse holders. I drilled holes to support 3 rails eventually. Right now I have fuses and combiner blocks for a couple inverters, also some lightning arrestors. It may eventually have connections for 3 inverters, 6 strings each, fuses both ends of each string. With disconnect at inverter and MC at panels I can make a circuit cold before doing any wiring. And no, it wasn't cheap, but less expensive than going all new.

Shown in this link:

Inverter fuses:
No box, just two cables from battery + to two fuses to four inverter cables. Bolted to brackets for negative battery busbar. There are plastic covers which go over the fuses and exposed + terminals.

Another choice, depending on voltage and current, is a SquareD QO breaker panel and boxes. Some of the breakers 70A an less are UL Listed for 48VDC. Although not UL Listed, Square D says two-pole breakers interrupting + and - can be used up to 125VDC.
