How do I hook up my Yeti 1400 lithium battery system to my friend’s RV roof-mounted solar panels — so we can share the charging juice, so to speak... Thanks! My friend’s RV is a Winnebago Travato 59G and has 300 watts of solar power panels on the roof... Has anyone figured out a way to essentially “share” the solar panel’s output between two vans? If so, I’d appreciate the knowledge-base share. ?

I have connected a parallel cable from the solar panels on my roof using Anderson Powerpole connectors that will directly connect to the Yeti 1400.

Connecting two charge controllers to one PV array is not a good idea, especially if those SCCs are MPPT.

You could:
  1. Disconnect the PV array from your friend's system and connect it to your Yeti via either the 8mm or power pole ports. Some kind of transfer switch might make this a little easier.
  2. If your friend has an inverter, use the supplied mains charger to charge your Yeti.
It is unlikely that your friend's RV's battery system will be compatible with the Yeti (RV probably uses lead-acid or LiFePO4, Yeti uses NMC) so connecting your friend's SCC to your Yeti battery (e.g. via the expansion port) would not be recommended.

I have two solar panels on my roof, but of course they are not always going to be facing the sun directly, so I have to Goal Zero panels I keep on the ground that I can direct more into the sun. I parallel the two panels on my my roof with the GZ panels so there are at times 4 panels charging the batteries, all through the MPPT. If I need to charge my Yeti 1400 I just take the cord from the GZ panels and plug into the Yeti. The two panels on the roof can still charge my RV batteries. Works fantastic.
