Hi,

I am trying to mount maybe up to 4 panels on my garage roof. Any recommendations as to what type of rail system I should buy and where to get it?
Thank you!

I'm in a similar situation. Wanting to mount 6 415w panels on my shed roof. Current plan is to go pick up some 41mm steel channel strut and some spring nuts and bolts from the local electrical wholesaler. Going to work out a lot cheaper than the "proper" solar mounting systems.

If you just have 4 panels, Tamarack has a kit that includes everything you need in a box that can ship UPS. There is a dealer locator on their web site.

Anyone remember the thread where someone was able to order a roof racking system form China?

That would work great. Home Depot Unistrut with the spring bolts and square washers to hold the panels is what I used. Unistrut is amazing. If mounting to a roof and you dont want it to leak, use quickbolts with their micro flashing.

I went with the K2 system for my shed it was really well-designed IMO. K2 mount to attach the rail to the roof comes with thick membrane when you screw it down to the roof it really seals it good. The rail was k2 86 inch 44-X. The clamps slide into the rail are designed for residential panels they clamp down get one clamps two panels in the middle. End clamps go on the ends of the panels. Two 7-foot rails roof mounts, and the slide in clamps I spent about $65. This video below shows the L brackets to mount to a steel frame I used the larger T bracket it is can splice two rails together end to end.

oh wow, thank you!

I also did the K2. Pretty simple install with plenty of adjustment. I did 4 runs of 60' for two rows of 16, strings of 8. It was a little pricey, but I'm glad i went with a decent rail system. Mounting the rails and panels was really easy.

Big fan of Tamarack rails / mounts for my first 2 roof arrays. I'll be using unistrut for the ground mount.

Can the K2 be mounted on shingle roofs?

Any particular Tamarack rails/mounts?
I think they only make 2 versions.
I bought mine from NAZ, now just solar electric.
If you order the shorter version they ship ups, I also found it cheaper to make my own kit vs purchasing the pre made.

Any recommended sites to buy the k2 rail system from?

I thought putting the Tamarack kit together was pretty easy. And Tamarack now offers add on kits for their prepackaged racks so you can easily add a couple more panels to a 4 or 8 panel rack without having to buy another whole kit. And NAZ has all of the clamps and rails individually if you need to customize the kit some more. I ordered extra mid clamps.

Using tamarack now. Longer rails seem better if you can score them locally since there's less fiddling with heights to get things coplanar

cool. Thank you

I meant I ordered the Tamarack components I needed separately instead of the pre-made kit they sell...
I might buy individual components. Looking to mount 4 panels at most on my garage. Can you provide me with a list of components that one would typically need to mount? So confusing...lol.

... The same items that come in the kit except the microinverter mounts... You need rails, rail mounts, end and mid clamps, grounding, etc.
