using a generator to go around the utility input on a hybrid inverter/charger

The utility input is rated at 60 amps for the lv6048 so I don’t see why not, but the plug type is irrelevant… it’s a 120v with a jumper or 240v wired l1/l2/n … Will has a video on how to jumper the connection if you only have 120v

Charging 48v battery from 48v bank

No there is not a 48v to 48v... I was suggesting 48Vdc - 120Vac - 48Vdc. You described a somewhat infrequent need to pull off one battery and go mobile and just needed a way to return it to the bank fully charged and using a charger from the battery bank to refill and match voltage of a...

They stole my whole solar system! Starting over from scratch in the South Campos of San Felipe, Baja

I don't think heat will be much of a problem in San Felipe because batteries don't really have the humidity perception that makes it feel hotter than it is. They really only care for the ambient temperature. Shaded in SF with good ventilation will keep your batteries within the working...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

My LV6048 has no issues running 2 coleman Airxcel 15000 btu ACs that were new a year and a half ago... no soft start needed. Residential fridge included on one of the legs. I have only tripped it if the coffee maker and micro wave all hit at the same time the AC compressor is pulling alot of...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

There will be no problem adding a second 6548... IF it is available. That's the only gamble and it's the gamble I may loose in the future also. While you can scale up and out with more units to increase you capabilities, the units are changing so fast they become unavailable quickly. I...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

You are correct that LV6048 does not have built in wifi, I added the separate wifi module to mine without issues. I agree with all the post here to the original poster that split phase is not necessary. If your RV does not require it and LV6548 will work perfectly fine. My desire for a...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

What is different between an LV6048 and LVX6048 that requires 240v split phase input? Obviously even though a lv6048 has a split phase input, you can easily get around it and use single phase 120V to charge the batteries. Not only does Will demonstrate it here around the 6 minute mark, I...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

Agreed.. although you could just as easily parallel 2 lvx6048 also and have a 12kw inverter.

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

"I would not recommend the LVX6048 due to the split phase requirement." Can you not jump the N1 and N2 like Will does on the input from a 120v generator and charge it the same way that is works with a LV5048/LV6048? " I doubt your generator has split phase and 50 amp service in a campground...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

No you would not if you wire it correctly. I have 10 - trinity 400 watt panels from santan solar wired 2S5P into a single 140V built in mppt contoller on the LV 6048. Focus a little bit of time to gain more understanding on the input factors of a mppt controller in your next steps of...

Why not just use the built in mppt controllers from the mpp or growatts? Why are you running dedicated mppts?

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

I use the built in LV6048 display and a vicron shunt with an app on my phone. Why are you buying hybrid inverters with built in Mppt controllers if you plan on using dedicated mppt controllers? That pretty much defeats the purpose of a hybrid controller. Just buy a plain old inverter if you...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

Fancy displays are fun for a few days.. after that you know the end to the movie and its boring. I don't look at mine much at all, it just does its thing day in and day out. You need to start talking Open Circuit Voltage when discussing "panels" not just total watts. The LVX6048 will take...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

When I bought the plain old LV6048 is was the newest model. The LVX or later models were not an option. I am fully off grid and have no electric service so I was not concerned about UL listing or what not. I believe your main concern will be the higher voltage range of the MPPT controllers on...

MPP LVX6048 or the MPP 6548

I have a 50 amp RV and I use a LV6048 split phase inverter. I have the lv6048 wired into a sub panel as split phase and then I wired a pedestal with nema plug. Not sure why that matters but its just for reference. When you are on shore power/generator, the load will bypass the inverter and...

Can Growatts/MPP AIO inverters not in parallel mode share 48v battery banks?

The Victron shunt for example is a stand alone device. There is no communication between it and the mpp/growatt. I use a victron shunt with my mpp solar lv 6048. I have an old phone in my solar shack sort of permanently dedicated to the bluetooth shunt. I have to physically walk in there...

Can Growatts/MPP AIO inverters not in parallel mode share 48v battery banks?

I think you could use a couple of buss bars to isolate a shunt in between the battery buss bar and a battery distribution buss bar to the inverters. The shunt would be measuring total in an out of the battery bank before the split buss to the inverters.

    MPP solar lv6048 fault f00

What other information can you tell us? What was going on before it threw the fault? Are you just at initial start up and configuration or has this inverter been working normally until this code fault? There appears to be no PV input, no load and while the utility is present no bypass etc...

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

this is straight from the manual: If this inverter/charger is working in Battery mode, only solar energy can charge battery. Solar energy will charge battery if it's available and sufficient. This is what was hard for me to get my head around at first. I thought at some point as long as the...

MPPSolar LV6048 won't use the utility input

I can not for sure say that jumper L1/L2 will work on a LV6548, but I know it works for an LV5048/6048. Watch Will's video and he explains it better than I ever could, around the 7:20 mark.

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

Did you figure out how to get the utility to charge your battery? And I believe you are going to go into utility bypass mode at that point and be drawing the entire inverter load and the charging load through that single 20 amp wall outlet. I wouldn't expect the 5000 watt inverter load to be...

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

BTW… you low voltage cut off set at 42 is really low. More common would be 46-48v. At 46v you are about 10% state of charge… not much left at that point.

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

So you will need the jumper because you are feeding the AC input with 120v and you will need to trick it into thinking its 240v. Your utility charging is not turning on because you don't need it. Try changing #16 to CUT for utility first and turn off the PV switch to make it think its night time.

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

You would only use the jumper if you don't have a 240v input available. IE you are connected to a 120v generator or only a 120v utility circuit. If you are connected to the grid or a 240v split phase generator the jumper is not needed.

    MPP LV5048 utility not charging.

You could send a pic of your display screen which would help. I have an MPP LV6048. #1 SBU is only going to use solar until your battery drops below the low voltage cutoff. What setting is #29 for low voltage cutoff? What is the current voltage of you battery bank? #12 this setting only...

What is my PV array doing?

What is my PV array doing?

I had my mppt controller set too low so I was not allowing the PV array to flow into the batteries. Once I set it to 200 amps of charging it now pulls 90% of the PV in the right conditions

How do I run stuff directly off of a 48V battery bank?

My battery bank consists of Four 48V 5.3Kw LifePo4 batteries. Each battery has a BMS. So I don't think I have to worry about the batteries going below a safe voltage. Sound like an easy way to light up some areas... thanks

How do I run stuff directly off of a 48V battery bank?

for example: I have found 48V input led rope lights, can I connect them directly to my 48V battery bank with a switch? My assumption is that any device that I can find that is a 48V input would be more efficient than running them through the inverter and probably transformed down to 12V...

    MPP LV6548 offgrid Wiring Question

A simple solution I applied to my LV6048 was to connect my underpowered generator to a EG4 Battery charger and then from the Battery charger directly to the Battery Busbar. It will not keep up with my max load potential but it will supplement my battery inputs long enough to get me to the next...

Do you trust Auto restarts for over temp and over load?

What could go wrong on a remote inverter that is un attended if I set it to auto start on an over load or over temp fault? It is a MPPSOLAR lv6048. It has ran fault free for about 6 months. Last week it turned off while I was away. The inverter was totally off and blacked out. When I...
