147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

original problem is solved. found a connector on a store bought extension cable was the problem. The metal was not fully inserted into the connector but far enough that when I put a probe lead in the connector, I could see the voltage, but when it was connected to its mate, nothing came thru...

147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

Crowz appears to be right on the money. I backed up the line and and finally got a negative side connector apart. testing with a breaker at that point showed all voltage passing thru fine from panels thru breaker. The connector on an extension cable from the panels to the breaker mounted at...

147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

I will try bypassing the connector at the breaker and see what happens.

147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

That is correct. Panels to breaker-then thru breaker to long wire run to house. nothing at house yet, taking this one step at a time. Your question makes me think a shut off switch should be where the breaker is. I am using the breaker as an emergency shut off point.

147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

There is no load involved. I have 147 vts across the + and - wires going to the breaker, just like I have 127 vts at the wire ends going thru the other breaker that works. When I connect the 147 vt wires to its breaker, next to nothing comes thru. I have tried switching breakers with the...

147 volts dc will not pass thru breaker (yes, breaker is on)

I have 6 160 watt panels that are wired in series. They are going to a 30 amp breaker as an emergency shut off. I can read 147 volts at the end of the wire during low sun but when I connect to a 30 amp breaker and turn it on, all I get on the other side is .5miliwatts. I have tried 4...

    which would be better-wiring question

I have 1 or 2 systems that I still have to find out the usage numbers on but what you are suggesting seems to be nearly spot on. Not needed for backup, have a 17kw autostart generac for that. Just placating the wife and doing something to cut the electric bill. The tv that is left on all day...

    which would be better-wiring question

You are correct, I was thinking 12 vt systems. I will start thinking about a 48 vt system, how many batteries, lead acid will I require? I am thinking at least 10 of 100 amp/hr to make it all work and not continually run them all down too far. Btw: you said something earlier about cold...

    which would be better-wiring question

Sorry, i will have to go back and reread the post from you. My first thought was that it seemed like at lot of amps but I may have not understood where you were going. New to this may take some time to understand. Thanks for the help so far.

    which would be better-wiring question

What I can tell so far is that, I will have to break up the system into at least 3 subsystems. which leads to a question? Can 3 systems feed into the battery bank? 3 charge controllers in, 1 inverter out it seems to me that after the batteries, it will not make any difference what inverter I...

    which would be better-wiring question

You are correct on the specs on all the panels I have. At this point, nothing is set in stone. I am still working on installing the panels in a ground mount. No other parts have been bought, so open to all ideas.

    which would be better-wiring question

It is more a question of what can I run with what I have now. NO plans to add more panels, I think 1500 watts will take care of all of the loads. House is very efficient, led lighting, no attempt to run 220vt devices or hvac. My plan is to install system , then turn over all I can to it. I...

    which would be better-wiring question

finally ready to get started, have 14, 100 watt 12 vt panels and 4 160 watt 12 vt panels. run to house is 125 feet where charger control, inverter and batteries will be located in climate controlled space. A few newbie questions: 1. wire size to house-125' run? 2. best wiring plan for...

    A distance question?

I am just starting out dabbling in solar and wind to offset current electric rates. My problem is this. All of my power generation has to be placed on the barn with controllers and batteries in a climate controlled room there. Power must run to the house which is approx. 110 feet away. I...

    which would be better-wiring question

Total newbie here, retired and just want to dabble in solar and wind. My question is- generating area is barn roof for solar and wind power, barn is approx. 100 feet from house. I want all batteries and controllers in the barn due to more space to work. what is best method to get power to...
