But your peak isn't 9.8v, your peak-to-peak is 9.8v. You still need to divide by two.

Who’s Afraid of Retail Electricity Rate Reform?

You seem to think that owners of a company should not get compensation for their investment. It is rather obvious that you have never owned a business. They don't last very long if all they do is lose money. Making a profit on your investment is not greed, it is the only way to keep a...

Would that it were so simple. The RMS (DC equivalent) value of a sinusoidal AC waveform is 70.7% of half of the peak-to-peak voltage. This is because you also have parts of your waveform that are much less than the peak. So, half of 9.8V is 4.9V, and the RMS voltage is 4.9*0.707=3.5V. Now...

I bought some really good Orgeat a few weeks ago while on the eclipse trip, so I opened it last night and made a couple of Mai-Tai cocktails with it. Shaken, not stirred. They were excellent!

Yeah, we should get back to wrenching each others' guts with poor puns.

And to be honest, the yeast they could do is leaven the situation with better jokes.

All I saw was a bunch of crusty jokes.

And I was posting here and there during my trip, but did not care to get into any details about anything technical. You are always free to bite the hands with food in them, but don't be surprised when they quit feeding. You are also always free to study the math and do your own calculations...

I don't recall seeing any real details of your test setup, or even what goals you wanted to accomplish. You basically jumped from using a three-phase motor to some unknown gravity test. All I saw was a comment that something moved very slowly when the coils were shorted. That makes sense, but...

It is possible that other people have their own lives going on and can't always respond on your schedule. For example, my wife and I drove 2,000 miles last week to see the eclipse from a great vantage point in Texas.

I like the idea of calibrating a car headlamp resistance curve with your bench supply. Turn the current limit all the way up and then record voltage and current as you incrementally increase the voltage. Then calculate resistance = voltage/current for each voltage. You now have a resistance...

Help me Install 3 EG4 Mini Split Solar Heat Pumps

No assumptions made at all. I don't mind having someone remind me to check the basics any time I start diagnosing problems, so I assumed you wouldn't either. I'm glad it is fixed!

Help me Install 3 EG4 Mini Split Solar Heat Pumps

Did you verify that the DC polarity is correct? It probably won't do anything if the DC is reversed.

MgO should be an exceptionally good electrical insulator. It is used inside heating elements for ovens, etc. to keep the wire from shorting against the outer case.

This is what I refer to as a Confessional Debugging. It starts with, "forgive me, brother, for I have coded." The colleague does not have to be more experienced. It could actually be your cat or dog. All you have to do is explain your design to something else and think that it is listening...

    Cistern

I have had a rain barrel for years at our lake camp. It is filled with water from the gutter and then filtered through a 20 micron and then .35 micron filter. We don't drink it, but we do use it for hand washing and other needs. I came across a very ingenious way to keep from filling the...

This is why we keep mentioning higher frequency. A magnet sitting still near a coil produces no current in the coil. The magnet has to move to produce current, and it produces more current with more speed. It should be roughly linear except for capacitance in the circuit and as the coil nears...

Air gap for heat to escape?

That would work, but Peltier devices are notoriously inefficient. Passive heating and cooling is best if you can figure it out. Otherwise you use all of your solar power keeping your solar equipment happy.

Air gap for heat to escape?

@discern - I am roughly 150 miles south of you. Cooling cells due to self heating has not been a problem for me, but keeping them cool from ambient temperatures has. Here is a plot of temperatures inside a small, poorly insulated, enclosed room where my solar charge controller lives. The...

Air gap for heat to escape?

You are probably better off using any extra space for insulation to keep heat out. Keeping batteries cool here in the southeast is very hard to do.

BMS recommendations for 16S 48V 100Ah LIFEPO4 setup for Ryobi Battery RB480E Mower replacement

That should work, but you should make sure you know the maximum current the mower can draw to make sure the BMS is big enough. Yes, you want to disconnect the battery when it is full, especially if you don't switch to a lithium charger.

Off grid incinerating toilets. Who uses one?

We started our solar journey because we bought an Envirotet composting toilet almost twenty years ago. It wants a fan running full time to "dry the mass," so I put in a 12v solar system. It is a bit big, but we have never smelled it at all. We don't stay there more than a dozen days a year...

I'm not going down some AI rabbit hole to see if it knows anything. It doesn't. It is simply a parrot. Perhaps we could reference real factual web pages about wind energy, blade design, magnetics, coil winding, structural support, etc. I don't mind helping you through the math if you need...

Need help with panels not giving any output

You check voltage with a volt meter. You check current (Amps) with an ammeter. If you plan to test the current of your panels with your multimeter, first make sure that the meter is rated high enough to test the panels. 10 or 20 Amps is generally the limit on a meter, depending on the brand...

    0.195 Ohms / 30 turns = 0.0065 Ohm/turn 0.9965 Ohm/turn * 29 turns = 0.189 Ohms. It looks like you probably did miss a turn. Normalize the field generated by the number of turns, e.g. open coil: 4.53mT / 29 turns = 0.156mT per turn Filled coil: 5.10mT / 30 turns = 0.17mT per turn The filled...

Your first coil in the comparison above has a resistance of 0.181 Ohms. The second coil (with the iron powder filling) has a resistance of 0.195 Ohms. You didn't state the number of turns or wire gauge, so I can only guess that the first coil is maybe one or two turns shy of the second coil...

It looks like the first picture shows your settings, and the second shows what happens when you turn it on with the coil connected. The current is limited to 5.6 Amps, so it is at its limit. The voltage is based on the resistance in the coil. Calculate the resistance as R = V/I, or...
