Ok thanks For your patience Mr Frum. How about this breaker on this din rail mounted to backer board?

I edited my last to ask about this Breaker. Maybe it’s too close to the operating voltage.

Would you please help me with the double pole single throw breaker? The ones I’m finding are for typical AC load centers. Is it similar to the 50a one I have between inverter and charge controller? TIA.

I’ll move the fuse. Thanks for all the info.

I just realized that re: battery fuse. There’s not one currently. Can I move the 150A I have to battery lug? Or add another? The battery cables are 2’. They run through back of cabinet, thru wall and into battery box mounted on exterior. Thanks

Understand, my loads are minimal, the system is over paneled and over-inverted. (Lights, radio) Ok cement board is no problem, thanks!

    24v wiring and component check

Please see post in newcomers area and give me any feedback about my system. Thanks in advance. Post in thread 'Newbie in NC Minnesota' https://diysolarforum.com/threads/newbie-in-nc-minnesota.5869/post-585033

Any advice on this wiring layout? 4ga wire 50amp breaker 150 amp fuse Black/red at bottom right go to 2 12v batteries in series for 24v PV wires straight into charge controller Any additional fusing/protection recommendations? Are fuse and breaker in right spots? Seems to me that one of them...

    Durastart deep cycle?

Don’t disagree with that for most use cases (like my house with grid tied PV, no battery) but lighting is my primary use. I likely just over paneled and over inverted (not sure that’s a word) for my needs.

    Durastart deep cycle?

Thanks for the info and your time! I ran the #s regarding a mini fridge and am not sure it’s worth the effort. The cabin is just 1/4 mile down the road from my house so using a cooler is really not an issue. I expect I can just power off the inverter when not in use (no fridge) to avoid no...

    Durastart deep cycle?

Thank you for the info! I passed on these. Not sure what I should go with so I’m searching some of the lead acid battery threads for info. Honestly lights and a radio are 90% use and probably 12-15 times a year. I decided to go solar because $45/mo for electric access fee is what is driving...

    Durastart deep cycle?

Thanks for pointing that out, it seems that the Durastart battery may have good capacity for the price but not be longest lasting or best choice.

    Durastart deep cycle?

Yes, probably right that I shouldn’t go cheap now! Just looking to wrap things up this fall. Looking at AGM to minimize leaks.

    Durastart deep cycle?

Thanks. Plan to run in series to the 24v inverter. Oversized the inverter in case I wanted to run a power tool for a few minutes (rarely) and to not regret having too small in future.

    Durastart deep cycle?

Thank you for weighing in. Use is intermittent and includes led lighting, radio and possibly a small fridge (0.8A) in warm months. Other equipment: Giandel 2kw pure sine wave inverter Victron Bluesolar MPPT 100/30 2-345w Q-cell Q Plus oriented SE (not optimally)

    Durastart deep cycle?

Anyone have any experience or input regarding these batteries? Not sure how to find AH rating. Maybe about 80 according to a CCA (680) to AH estimate I found. MCA is 850 and RC is 170. https://www.landmsupply.com/durastart-12v-marine-deep-cycle-battery They’re $75 right now and I plan to use...

Remote cabin - need input on my plan

Is 12/2 or 14/2 romex wire good enough for some of these needs? Sorry to hijack but you’re spec for led lights with 12 ga wire is beyond code for residential lighting. Asking cause I really don’t know and am interested in doing solar for a small cabin as well. Thanks

MPPT Charge Controller & PV Array

Thanks and agreed on parallel being cost effective and below controller limits. I’m not aware of the advantage of larger controller and series other than expansion capability?

MPPT Charge Controller & PV Array

I’m new to solar and have a preliminary plan for a small setup that I’d love to have folks weigh in on. It’s for intermittent use at a small cabin, for lighting, radio, small fridge, etc. Equipment: 2 used pv panels, see attached spec (345w, 48v ea, 9 amps) —series/parallel decision is next—...

Cool, glad you think so. Bought them off CL for $140 ea. Felt it was a good deal. First component for array so hopefully good start.

Thanks I’ve been doing the same. It’s probably basic, but I can’t figure out what specs the charge controller will need. Need to do more reading for sure.

Hi all— I am Darren from north central MN. Just getting started in pv and am very excited. Will be putting small system on off grid cabin, and potentially buying or building one for the house. I’ve got lots of questions! I ordered the book Install Your Own Solar Panels: Designing and Installing...
