    Possible laundry solution

I haven't really thought about it much. I watched a complete teardown of the upper section of the machine here - The belt on my old washer lasted almost 15 years. As this is a DIY forum, if/when the belt breaks, I'll be DIYing that too. Then again.... I do get older every day and I'll be 55 in...

    Possible laundry solution

Ive had the GE Profile since early September and have around 160 loads of laundry through it. We LOVE this machine. Firstly, even though we're not on solar yet, for a full wash and dry the machine ONLY uses .8-1.5 kWh! It replaced an old washer and dryer unit where the dryer was 28amp/220v...

What are you doing to save energy?

Same with the instructions saying it needs an individual 15a branch circuit. Surely thats a left over code thing from dyers needing their own dedicated circuit, as well. @BKY2003 did you run an individual circuit for the machine?

What are you doing to save energy?

Wow! Thats even better. Sadly, I dont have rebates for this in my area. :( I do have 30% tax credit for a heat pump hot water heater though.

What are you doing to save energy?

My power company has a really nice chart system for usage. 12-2pm was laundry time so most of that is dryer and electric hot water heater. 6-8pm is shower/bath time for my wife and 2 kids last night. I could probably halve my electricity use by replacing those both with high efficiency units.

What are you doing to save energy?

Wow! How long did it take to dry on that setting? Also, with discounts, Lowes has this machine right now for under 2k! Might be buying sooner than I thought!

What are you doing to save energy?

Sorry, I misspoke. We use the oven occasionally. The stove top we use a lot. I am looking at getting a 2 burner induction on Black Friday. I'll have to lookup the incoming water temp for my area. It looks to me that the natural gas tankless water heaters and the heat pump hot water heater are...

Sorry if my "hmmmm ok" sounded like I was questioning you. I was just "hmmm" thinking. :)

What are you doing to save energy?

Hmmm ok. A neighbor with the same amount of children as me said his gas bill was around 50 a month in the summer. Comparably, mine is 8.50, the minimum charge to have gas service.

What are you doing to save energy?

I guess this could be a good question for this thread. I see a lot of people discussing solar and energy reduction make suggestions to eliminate electrical demand, like gas appliances. Im in need of a new hot water heater and have had multiple suggestions to go with a tankless gas unit. Im...

What are you doing to save energy?

Thats pretty impressive! My dryer is old and rated at 28 amps. I think it uses 2500-3000watts and since it's old, sometimes I have to run it more than once.

What is the limiting factor in charging large battery arrays?

Thanks! I figured as much but wasn't sure. So basically, no matter how big or powerful a system is, the battery is limited by how fast youre supposed to charge it to make it last. Obviously cant charge a battery from 20% to 100% in 5 minutes and expect prolonged lifespan. This is off the...

What is the limiting factor in charging large battery arrays?

Ive been researching and learning a ton but can't quite find the information (or I just dont understand what Im reading) on this subject. I recently used a calculator that claimed one could charge 6 48v 100ah batteries with an 8000pv system in around 3.5 hours of peak sun. Since I assume one...

    DIY in Austin - Impossible?

Is it worth being on grid backfeed and net metering? My electric company has a policy but their rates are expensive in the evening and never equate to 1 to 1 buy back so batteries (off grid with grid backup) seems a better option anyway. My company also has "peak days" like weekends and holidays...

What are you doing to save energy?

Tell me more about these low watt elements and timer. My hot water heater barely uses energy except when I drain it in the evenings with showers/washer machine/dishwasher. I know some of the newer hot water heaters have schedules and such that are useful for that kind of thing. Also, how do you...

Eg4 hybrid 12K mini split beeps.

Not EG4 but on my unit, if you turn off the LED, it also turns off the beeps.

    New system - solark 15 kpv, eg4 18kpv

Im in a similiar situation to you (except I only have 3 kids and the wife so around 30-50kwh per day) and something you should consider is the future of your 1to1 buying program with the power company. Mine used to do 1 to 1 but now they dont. They force everyone on grid buy back into timed...

Interesting. Now if I can get my wife to use it over the stovetop....

    Eg4 inverter future

I wonder what the surge and length is on one of them fancy 115v heat pump hot water heaters. I cant find much detail aside from "4500w".

What are you doing to save energy?

So true. I would run my air conditioning and electric heat more if it were "free".

What are you doing to save energy?

Im looking at ditching my washer and dryer for a fancy new all in one heat pump based washer/dryer (115v) and a heat pump hot water heater to go next to it. (also 115 volt). Those two are my top 3 largest consumers along with my electric stovetop/oven.

    Eg4 inverter future

Thanks! What shortcomings are you referring to exactly? All of my large loads are 240v and even those rarely get above 3000w. Im new to the solar "scene" though so Im still learning and am probably missing something in my "math".

    Eg4 inverter future

This is exactly what I was looking for! I didnt plan to grid tie but wanted the code compliance of the 18k (though I'll have to wait for these to become listed I guess) I can only fit about 20 panels on my roof so again, 18k was overkill. Wooohooo!!!! Lettuce hope that its a solid unit. Cant...

    My build thread

Because my roof space (the only non shaded area on my property, sadly) is limited and I won't be able to add panels, what do you think that longevity of such a method is if the charger is used frequently? Should I just bite the bullet and go grid tied?

    My build thread

@timselectric I think I saw you mention in another thread that youre using a chargeverter so that you stay off grid but can still use grid power to charge your battery bank when needed. I cant find that now but was that you and can you tell me about that briefly? Im thinking of going this way.

Solar for a non-EG4 mini split

Thanks Tim! I think this is what I am interested in doing. My county/city is kinda being a PITA when it comes to solar installing so let's hope they dont just shut down my whole idea. I have to roof mount and they recently added some overbearing legislation about who and how they can install...

Solar for a non-EG4 mini split

Thanks yall! Oddly enough, all I really was asking was about inverters/batteries. I see now that a hybrid or grid connected inverter will do what Im after. Back when I posted this I didnt realize some inverters had input from the grid. I thought everything was off grid pretty much. :) Thanks!

Thats great info. Thank you. Im in South Carolina so typically our codes/laws aren't as overbearing as other states but I'll have to check. Appreciate the long and thorough responses. Back to more research. :)

The most beginner of beginner questions.

Thanks, Zany! That all makes a lot of sense. So just to clear up something, an expensive inverter with appropriate features and that that DOESNT back feed the grid but is fed from the grid is what Im looking for, right? I know I saw someone else in another thread talking about inverters that...

The most beginner of beginner questions.

How exactly do hybrid solar power inverters function in the context of being connected to the grid, and what role do they play in terms of grid integration? I hope I'm phrasing this property so bear with me. Say I am making this system but perhaps on a smaller scale -...

Solar for a non-EG4 mini split

I just installed a new Mini split unit (kicking myself for not going with the EG4 units but I didnt see them until after purchasing the new unit) and am looking to make my first solar journey converting it to converting to running off solar while still being hooked to grid for backup. I know the...
