    I'm an old koot

Welcome sir. These guys know their stuff. Being 70 something myself, I started thinking I had bit off more than I could chew when I started unloading all the equipment and staging it for installation. I'm just going at it real slow for now. At our age every day is a new adventure, in...

Does EG4 18 amp charger shut down automatic?

Ya, I know they have a BMS, just cant believe this one is that far out of balance from sitting for a year.

Does EG4 18 amp charger shut down automatic?

Thanks, yep, did that, unplugged it after it shut down, hooked it back up, flipped the breaker and plugged it back in. The charger runs a bit after pulling the plug as the electros discharge inside. I know its a dumb-ish charger but... I just shut it all down, will move on to #3 tomorrow and...

Does EG4 18 amp charger shut down automatic?

Trying to top balance 6 48 Lifepower batts, one at a time with this charger. The first one took about 3 hours, 4 led's lit up and the charger shut down. On the second one, the charger has been running for about 6 hours now, holding at 56.4 volts and bouncing around between .5 to 1.5 amp. I...

Help, EG4 6000XP will not turn on

Wonder if that XP has something built in that detects reverse polarity and simply ignores the reverse or has a protection circuit? As far as th sun, if you get under a black hood along with the screen, you'll be able to read it.

    EG4 6000XP MPPT unclear specs

Still curious. My question above is, does it still track when input is in the upper range, 450VDC+-? Line 3 states where "it can track", is there no tracking above 385VDC? Then there is line 4... Between the two lines, sounds like 320VDC should be the upper input limit for best efficiency...

Sad seeing 148 unanswered threads in last month

I read a helluva lot more than I post. Most answers, around 65% can be found with a little time and effort, not to mention everything else you learn along the way. If I read something I dont understand, I will ask confirmng questions in the same thread instead of splintering off and starting a...

Zapper, where did that pic from EG4 go detailing the new updates? Would like to have that for my file.

Backup Generator Sizing EG4 6000XP (Parallel)

This, I have had a hard time of letting go of. So it isn't THD and burning stuff up, why do I need a 18-24kw gen for running a light and a tv at the same time or charging batteries at 25 amps or even the max allowable the gen will provide and the XP will tolerate? I believe my little 12kw gen...

    EG4 6000xp - Battery Voltage Settings

Thanks for that. Like all programming on these things, I have to read it 3 times to get it! Lotsa of nooks and crannies in these things, allot of copy and paste for future clarification...

    EG4 6000xp - Battery Voltage Settings

These are the setup/configuration details that I like to read about since I know little about programming these things. I assume that "grid EOD" is the end of discharge while on grid, where the XP stops drawing from the batteries and is usually set at around 20%? Then when the XP goes into...

Using ChargeVerter 5000 instead of 6000XP Charging?

I take it the chargverter attaches to the battery bank buss bars and not the batt input on the inverter? So any load over 6000 watts on the inverter and inverter will allow any demand over 6000 watts to passthrough from the grid. But, the charge output of the XP and that of the chargeverter...

    EG4 6000XP setup questions.

Jarrett, question. Does EG4 reccomend a 20kw+ genny for two XP's simply because they are afraid people would try and run them on a cheap 5000kw/240vac unit while trying to power house loads as well, that would have no where near enough output to support one XP much less two XP's demand and while...

    EG4 initial startup

To add to what AZ said: I believe the XP needs to be powered, not the inverter section but the switch on the right side. Then once you have a completed circut between the batteries and the XP, again as AZ said "all breakers on" you would turn on only one battery, wait 5 seconds or so and then...

6000XP/6500EX Generator terminals, good for? Beating a dead horse here...

Did you're simply posting his name above "call him to the thread", or do I have to do something with his name to summon him? I still have some questions for Jarrett and I was fortunate to run into a guy who serviced these units and got allot of good informtion. Basically he said just dont load...

6000XP/6500EX Generator terminals, good for? Beating a dead horse here...

How do I use this jarrett ink? Start a converstion? Is that a pm or does it start a thread? Adding to this, I dont see many people talking about their gen connections on this forum. Makes me wonder how many people do connect their gens directy to inverters? I have worked with THD in high end...

6000XP/6500EX Generator terminals, good for? Beating a dead horse here...

Outside of $2000 - $5000 inverter generator with low THD, (like less than 2 - 3%) what else can you connect to these inverters gen terminals? I eluded to this in another post a while ago. Since I back feed the house mains with the generator, what I would like to do is run the inverter on...

Mains panel backfed by generator while 6000XP tied into mains?

Ya, I can do that as a backup option. Wondering what people are connecting to the genny inputs on the 6000XP's? Feeds from generators, can the gen input on these XP's handle little 4-6kw gens w/ dirty power? Or do they still have the input limitations as the 6500xex? Still doesn't answer...

Mains panel backfed by generator while 6000XP tied into mains?

Guess this aint gonna fly, is it? Unless THD is below xx%. My plan "was" to move all 120vac loads to solar/inverter/battery, while keeping two 240VAC loads, range and dryer, on the mains since they are rarely used. Then if there is a mains power failure, manually fire the genny up and let the...

DON'T Install DC Isolators on Solar

So what is the collective verdict on this type at the array's and/or at the head end, just before the inverters? https://signaturesolar.com/dc-disconnect-rooftop-isolator-switch-by-imo/

6000XP -PV volts v.s. Watts incoming power

Darn good question. Dont think it will affect life as much as capcity. Over time, stored capacity could slowly dimenish due to the cells never reaching, for lack of better words, a bottom balance. Might me a good idea to run them down a few times a year. But what do I know??

So between the negative buss and the 4/0 cable to the system, correct? To monitor the mdpoint, suppose it needs to be mounted mid point on the buss, or no?

    EG4 6000XP MPPT unclear specs

Zapper, were you able to track any MPPT tracking efficiency losses at that higher voltage? Just wondering, why, if these units are designed to handle up to 480VDC, why they don't design the tracking to be optimum at these higher voltages? Guess it's just a thought experiment on my part... I...

Solar Panel Tilt Test. What are your angles for 38 Degrees North Latitude?

I am building the adjustable racking for these 32 panels for around 1500. The mounts are aiming due south, not the perfect 10 degrees west of due south but the best I can get without additional calamity. The quarterly/monthly tilting adjustments will be made using angle gauges. I was just...

Solar Panel Tilt Test. What are your angles for 38 Degrees North Latitude?

I was just looking for a hard stops for summer and winter for this rack design. I need to machine material and wanted to keep material removal to a minimum for strength. After taking averages from all the calculators, guess I will just cut it for the extremes of 12 and 66 degrees and find out...

Solar Panel Tilt Test. What are your angles for 38 Degrees North Latitude?

Ya, I have more accurate tools than that. I was just looking for a hard stop on the racks for summer/winter and was wondering how many different answers I would get from all these obviously flawed, or variable calculators out there.
