Before assembling this Licitti 2000w new generation box , do I need to balance the battery pack(4 280ah) or does the BMS handle it during the first charging process? I will be using a 40 amp ac charger.

All BMS that I know will balance the cells. None of them are instant. Some are better than others with higher current active balancing.
May as well post the exact BMS to get an idea what to expect.

Looks like this JBD BMS with 150 mA passive balancing.

If the cells are out of balance it will take an extended period to get them balanced. Can assemble as is and see what the cell voltages are as the battery is charged to 14.2 volts. Can add an active balancer if needed.

Or can do a parallel top balance before assembly.
I have considered the top balance in parallel. How long will a parallel top balance take?

4x 280 Ah = 1120 Ah. Half charged would need 560 Ah. Typical 10 amp power supply 56 hours or 2.3 days continuous. Longer if they are at 30% charge.
