Has anyone looked at the quality of some of the higher capacity batteries that are available on Amazon? It seems that Will tends to focus on the lower (100W) batteries while the higher capacity ones appear to provide more bang for the buck.

I ran a spreadsheet on all of their offerings to discern which battery was cheapest /50A and Lossigy had their 12V/200A battery at $187.50/50A and JITA had their 12V/300A battery at $188.33/50A. Lossigy also shows their 12V/50A battery at $49.99, but I'm guessing that's a typo since it would be stupid cheap. I think he did a vid on the CHINS 100A battery a while back and said that they were really a good deal despite that they didn't have a low temp sensor and I'd bet that all of these batteries have basically the same insides, despite the different brand names.

Thanks for the comparison.

I think Wills focus on low temp charging protection is going a little to far, since disconnecting the BMS to prevent low temp charging is pretty bad for chargers and inverters.
Sure it protects the batteries, but you need then to reset the battery to get it back functional.

I'd rather have low temp charging protection from the charger - There are many chargers with external sensors available.

I don't think this needs to be a feature of the battery.

I sort of agree with you. But, except for Victron (with expensive addons) (and maybe some of the other very expensive brands), I can't find any that actually support low temp cutoff for LiFePo4 (they seem to only use the external sensors for temp compensated charging for Lead Acid). This includes the GroWatt/MPPSolar AIOs too. You would think it would be easy to incorporate the low temp cutoff in the firmware for the existing temp sensors ?‍♂️. Even the newer EPEver SCC's can do it, but only configured via the PC software (and not the MT50)

If this is not widely available as I thought, would argue writing to the manufactures to add the feature.

In my humble opinion that should be a feature of the charger, you can charge LFP at low temp, but you need to keep the current very low. (0.05C to 0.1C)

I actually read the study Will posted a while ago. It's not like that above 0 Celsius you can charge full power and one degree lower at -1 Celsius it's suddenly not possible anymore. Actually a LFP likes to be between 15 and 25 Celcius (60-78F) best - everything above and below affects lifespan.

Below 0 Celsius you have some effects beginning which might destroy a battery over the long-term. They are much worse at -30C then compared with -10C

That's why I think those value batteries like Chins or Amperatime are actually good choices when you are not in permanent cold climate

Hi all.. I appreciate the collective experience and contributions of this group! Has anyone had direct experience replacing golf cart batteries in an RV with the Lossigy 12.8V 100AH battery, which is sized to fit in the space of the golf cart battery? I have a new to me RV that has 6 of the Interstate golf cart lead acid wet cell batteries, and they are 3 years old, so I am interested in putting in these Lossigy units, which are now $330 each at Amazon. I am sure they don't have low temp cutoff, but I live in San Diego, so not much of a problem here.. Thanks!!
