For the sake of completeness, I am updating this thread to let others know, I now have my battery and everything looks great. 
Some advice to EG4: instead of saying you don't recommend running the 6000XP without a battery, just say it requires a battery and you can't do anything useful without one. It will only pass through grid power while your PV sits idle without one. And running this inverter on PV without a battery is only as good as the next cloud. So there's really no point in running it at all without a battery.
@zanydroid Thank you for all the information regarding compliance. Very helpful and something I can now put further attention to now that I am up and running. As for the "race condition", you're right, not quite the meaning if you are familiar with it from a programming context. I meant that compliance could come before there is an issue for me personally. So, more of a positive concurrency than a race condition.
