I'm new to this stuff and I'm not easily finding an answer I've been trying to understand with regards to a new install.

From page 15 of the manual, I understand that each PV input can accept up to 500V not to exceed 18A.

For PV1, if I took 8x455w panels with a Voc of 49.35 and I create two series of four panels in two parrel configurations, the math would look as follows.

8 panels x 455W Each = 3640W, Voc of 49.35 x 4 panels = 197.4V. Watts/Volts = amps, so 3640/197.4 = 18.4A, which exceeds the maximum of 18A on the PV input.

If instead, I used 400-watt panels the equation would look as follows?

8 panels x 400W Each = 3200, Voc of 49.15 x 4 panels = 196.6V. Watts/Volts = amps, so 3200/196.6 = 16.27A, which does not exceed the maximum of 18A on the PV input.

Is my formula correct in determining the array size and configuration?

Thank you in advance for any assistance!!

Cheers all!

The math has a couple of problems and other considerations:
1) Panel wattage has to be divided by the Vmp NOT the Voc. Or better yet use the datasheet Imp amperage and forget division altogether.
2) Why not connect all 8 panels in series, that would only be about 395V, well within the 500V max.
Be careful with that high voltage DC
