I have installed an off-grid Growatt SPF5000ES with 8 Canadian 460W panels in a 4s2p configuration. It delivers 2.2Kw from the panels and even without load wont charge the battery. Please, help me to correct the situation, or at least understand why it's not charging.

The Freedom One 8/10 Lithium battery is configured as user-defined (U52 in setting 05) without BMC.

So,if anyone ever struggles with connecting a Freedom Won battery to a Growatt spf5000es inverter, using the BMS (CAN) cable, here is how.

The comms cable must have a wire on pin 7&8 on the Battery side and 4&5 on the inverter side. Plug it into either one of the battery sockets, I.e., the one without the dead-end resistor plug, and into the inverter where it's labelled BMS, taking note which side goes where by referencing the pins of the plugs.

Access the inverter menu option 05 an set it to LI. The menu transports you to option 036 to select the CAN protocol. Set this to 52.

The battery and inverter should now be connected. The BMS will change some values (in the inverter's menu) as it is connected via CAN and it is normal.
