My small toy hauler system

I have a small 18 foot toy hauler trailer. I use it to transport my SxS and to stay in when out riding. A lot of the time were we go is far from any kind of hook ups. So I figured I do a solar setup and stop having to run the generator everyday. After a bunch of headaches including having to make a new kitchen cabinet and fixing a huge water leak (2 year old trailer) I shoehorned all of it in new space. I still have a few small details to finish and tweak but everything seem to be working great. The system consists of a 24 volt 300Ah battery I built out of cells I got from china. Its eight 300Ah cells with a Daly 250 amp 24v BMS stuffed in a custom stainless box. I also am using a victron multiplus 24v 3000 watt inverter and 2 victron charge controllers. I put two different solar arrays both set as 24v but the back one is 400 watts and the front is 640 watts. Plus a lot of little thing like battery protects and dc/dc converters. Overall I think things came out pretty good and everything seems to be working perfectly. Now I just need the sun to come out long enough to really test the system.

Wow, that’s one heck of a system for a small toyhauler. I’d love to see pictures of the solar panels and how you fit them on a smaller roof. Nice work!

I can spend a week or more in the middle of nowhere and every gallon of fuel I bring for the generator is a gallon that could be for the toy. I wanted a system that would just work and space is very limited because the car takes up 90% of the trailer. Even finding space to put the battery was a challenge. Other then one small cabinet the kitchen is all the space there is in the trailer. If the weather permits tomorrow I will get some pics of the panels.

Here is my toy hauler install from a few years ago. Still working great. Generator only used three or four times in last few years for air conditioning only.

Very nice use of space, hard to fit a SXS in and have any room left for the rest of your stuff.
Wanted to have a solar system I could use at home as well as on the road so built a portable solar generator. Followed Will’s basic 400 watt system but have six 100 watt panels. Worked well last August at Taylor park.
