Hi,
I am considering building a solar system for my barn. I am currently concerned about the distance from the panels to the charge controller.
The ideal location for my solar 'stack' (MPPT, inverter, batteries) is in the tac room, (walled off, dry room for gear and storage). This is on the north side of the barn. The panels will be mounted on the south side of the barn for maximum exposure.
The wire distance, taking into account how it would be routed, is about 60ft.
I want to build an 800W array in series, with 4 200W panels at 12V each for a total of 48V into the charge controller. The battery bank will be 24V, with a 100/35 or 100/50 MPPT for a little expansion room.
Do I have to be concerned with loss across such a distance? If so, should a build a goat and mule-proof cabinet nearer to the panels?
Thanks for any info.
