Preheater w/ existing electric tank: controls?

Greetings ~ my search did not turn up what I was looking for. New here, thanks for the understanding.

I want to build a simple coil in a box preheater to work with my existing e-tank. I prefer direct flow, and will drain and decommission at first frost. Lower system cost, better payback, even if not running in the winter.

I would much appreciate direction to discussion, diagrams or videos, showing layout of plumbing, and pumps/controls. Of course I don't want to blow up either the preheater or the tank. If tank temp and preheater temp are both maximum, what are my options? That is likely come high summer. Thank you!
