Running ac inverter off of alternator

I have ran into a small issue. Currently I wired and fused a renogy 700w ac inverter to run off my car battery via alternator charge(only when running). I plan to mount it to the front of the driver's seat, but I found out it is the ground. I only am using 3 feet of 6awg wire so I would prefer to have it there. When I attempted mounting it to the base of the seat it started to spark. Is there a way I can still mount it the the driver seat safely without causing sparks?

I believe that is an earth ground, so it's made to be connected to a grounding rod.
I don't think you would use that ground in a mobile application

Are you saying the case was sparking as you mounted it? Suggesting a short?
