Running solar PV cables outdoors - a few questions

Hi all. I need to run cables underground for a new ground-mounted solar array in my garden. This would go back to my house where a new inverter and battery will be located. There will be 12 x 400w panels maximum and the cable length to them is approx. 50m. Not sure if I'll use micro-inverters yet, probably not. No equipment has been purchased yet.

1. What size and type of cable would be best?

2. Can this cable be run next to AC supply cabling for a nearby garage?

3. Does the cable need to follow a specific path, e.g. close to boundaries or in straight lines?

4. What is the regulation for the size and depth of trench (UK)?

Thanks in advance.

you'll need to check with your local housing authority to determine what rules apply. our rules here across 'the pond' are very different.

1. that depends on the voltage and amperage being run. you'll need to decide what panel array contifugration you're going with and what SCC you're sending it to. you can't exceed the Voc of the SCC but it has to be higher than the SCC startup voltage, as well.
2. yes
3. straight (shortest distance) is always best
4. you'll have to check local rules
