Hey all :)

I’ve fitted 2 x 170 watt solar panels to the top of my roof tent.

I’m concerned that if the cables or connects shorted on the roof that it may charge the tent / roof itself.

Is that a valid (though unlikely) concern?

The panels plug into an anderson plug at present.

The tent is connected to a roof rack.

The roof rack to the car.

Etc

So does that mean it is effectively grounded already via frame/body work or should I look at a dedicated cable?

Or am I just over thinking things? :)

Dzzzt dzzzt dzzzt is about all it would do. Put a fuse on the positive wire and the fuse will blow on the first dzzt and that is it.
Anderson plugs can come unplugged and will not short anything out. The solar panel stock plugs will not short out either. What are the chances you damage one of these heavy duty cables anyway?
I have a galvanized bare metal roof and do not worry about wires shorting out. Pt the wires in plastic wire looms anyway to protect from UV damage and that adds another layer of protection from damage too.
