2024 Total Eclipse: Where & When - NASA Science

The Monday, April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

Going to be interesting to see how the grid manages all that PV behind the meter shut off then come back on.

Luckily New Englands major solar fields won’t be in the direct path, but mid west Ohio region (black out 2008 cough cough) might be more interesting.

Hopefully everyone has their off grid system up and running in case things go south.

I don't expect it to be a problem.
Everyone will be outside looking at the sky.
Loads should be fairly low.
And a lot of the grid-tied systems have switched to off grid (or hybrid zero export) , due to the lowered pay back rates for exporting.

It has happened in the UK, when the power was restored after an outage the renewables came back online simultaneously, disrupted the Grid and caused a brown out.

The reconnection profile has been changed and a programme of it being applied to commercial sites was undertaken.
