Hey everyone,
Curious if anyone has opted out of their ToU program? For those in it, do you see any benefits?
I just had my new 'smart' meters installed and of course, they did not provide much of any information.
I had called in, and it sound that you can keep the smart meters in place, but opt out of the ToU.
The flat rate cost are as follows:
season cents
Winter - 7 per kW
Summer - 8 per kW
ToU:
season off peak shoulder 1 - 3 peak 3-7
Winter - 6 9 11 per kW
Summer - 6 12 17 per kW
I had asked if there were any additional charges, and I was told no, unless I requested that they remove the smart meter, and put in a non-communicative meter, then there would be a monthly trip charge of around $11-12 per month.
I think that having a smart meter is better for Xcel to have a better view of the usage so they are not over producing, but I am hard stretched to see any benefit as a customer.
Lastly, with my solar production, I don't think that I will product enough to carry me over the peak in the winter months. I have a 4 kw system. I just don't think that I have enough data to know that year to year if I come out ahead or behind.
What have been your experiences?
Regards,
