Joe run the wire to a stake that’s 3 ft into the earth. Your house grid system will have an earth rod somewhere. Thats were they are saying to attach it. https://diysolarforum.com/resources/grounding-made-simpler-part-1-ac-houshold-grounding.157/

Rightyo fellas so I have some work to do. I’ll get onto it. Yeah Sunshine, i got them for virtually scrap value.
  • Post in thread: WOW! Absorption fridge vs compressor fridge

Perfect. Just like a generator, why would you bother with an LPG fridge!
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Tim, did it the same with the isolator.
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

A bit like yours aye! “So much half information” is that like that ’only half pregnant’? But thanks Volvo.
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

    You read my mind!!!
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Thanks Doc. As it turns one of the string leads had the MC4’s reversed. Thankyou.
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Thanks Bud, I’ll get that info soon
  • Post in thread: Crimp battery and inverter cables without special tools $0

amalgam tape is what we used for satellite work.
  • Post in thread: Crimp battery and inverter cables without special tools $0

Great article. Well I’m disappointed. I have many soldering irons and an 80w unit yet to arrive! But really I mostly use them to join two wires. The only soldering I have been doing mostly to crimps is with the Anderson plugs. So I will crimp and properly. At least I had this right. For crimps...
  • Post in thread: AGM in storage.

Thanks mate, the Epever 2206 is set to AGM and from memory is virtually spot on. Float is at 13.8v.
  • Post in thread: Crimp battery and inverter cables without special tools $0

You can use some shrink tube to make it air tight.
  • Post in thread: Crimp battery and inverter cables without special tools $0

Ok, so I did some research. The consensus is crimp is better if the right crimp tool is used. Whith that said, I couldn’t find anywhere a statement made that said a crimp had the same or lower resistance to solder! Cheers guys.
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Tim, I wouldn’t put it past me to muck it up, but the reading was the same with two breakers and two isolators. Even the controller recognised what I was seeing. Eliminated the breaker and away she went! Next day, fit breaker and all is good!
  • Post in thread: Battery consumption

Yep, all good. None of the batteries were ill. Just needed individual charging. No batteries are going over 15v now and none low in float.
  • Post in thread: Importing Eve Cells into Australia

We can thank Jerry Harvey for that!
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Doc, I do have a little difficulty understanding what you write sometimes. I measured the VOC and IMP of each panel prior to lifting onto the roof. I then measured the VDC of each string averaging 136V. Cheers.
  • Post in thread: AGM in storage.

rickst29, Thanks for your reply. My apologies as I should have looked up for the maintenance sheet with Supersafe. Just didnt think of it! Well thats good news, I can leave it attached to the solar panel. Settings in the MPPT are ideal. Cheers.
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Yep, I understand the drop in volts and amps as the state of charge maximises. I measured the VOC of the string.
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Thanks Volvo, I’ll have a look mate.
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Sorry guys for being a little slow on the uptake. I struggle with electrical but I will have a go. Anything mechanical I have no issue with even with one eye tied behind my back. Thanks for your help guys. Al.

  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Hi Bud, sorry for the late reply. Been very busy. Bud, no it doesn’t make sense at all. I tend to think it will stay pretty much as a mystery. Ill get a pic in the morning mate.
  • Post in thread: Crimp battery and inverter cables without special tools $0

    Guys, joining two wires! Solder?
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Well if it were as simple as that but its a pretty intricate circuit board with many chips! It is what it is mate. I have bought an Epever 50A unit that will act as the solar controller for what is now just an inverter. I’ll add another 1-2 Epever’s as I need them. The Epever has a max VOC of...
  • Post in thread: Isolator breaker resistance

Bud, with the probe at the in of the breaker and the other probe on the out side, I get zero resistance. I did’nt bother with polarity off the meter. 90-120volts (depending on sun) were coming into the breaker. On the output side I was getting only about 1/4, 1/3 of the amount of volts. Now...
  • Post in thread: 24v System, am l on the right track?

Leigh, with 3S2P it equals 124.5V. Ok if you double that because you said “x2), that would only be 249V. Thats 12 panels but you still have plenty in reserve with the 500voc and 120A
  • Post in thread: Battery consumption

Thanks Sunshine, Checked voltages this morn while charging by sun and they are all in the low 13’s. For today I’ll monitor them and see how they fair. Oh I didn’t expect the balancer to equalise such diff voltages. These 4 were pretty much even. Oh yeah I know 15v plus was an issue. Yesterday...
  • Post in thread: Backup standby SLA batteries

All good mate. Ill be going down to Melbourne to buy another 12 in the next couple of days. Keeping the DOD as low as possible should get me my moneys worth. I have 18 x 250w solar panels to pick up as well. Cheers.
  • Post in thread: Cooked charge side of Growatt.

Apparently Growatt don’t repair or provide parts. If they accept the warranty application, they just send you out a new one! Wish I could purchase the board!
