I am starting a thread specific to he Heltec 200A Smart BMS with 2A Active Balance. 200A max charge. 350A max discharge
I have 4 of them and I bought them from the Alibaba Heltec store here - https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/14-24S-200A-Smart-BMS-with_62544207027.html
edit: I forgot to...
The grid went down last night and so did cable TV and internet. My batteries are still working flawlessly. Air conditioning and all.
It's pitch black outside so I can't check for damage. I doubt there is any.
Hope everyone else is ok
Thanks for the positive thoughts guys. My current doctor is very positive and he says the new odds are much better than what the internet says. I am pretty good at keeping a positive attitude but I have to prepare for all possibilities. I am 66 years old and have lived a good life so it's all...
I just want to thank all who contributed to this thread.
My batteries are working perfectly. I have 5 batteries parallel that stay very close to each other.
I got my BMSs calibrated and the voltage is within .002 of each other all the time.
And it is super easy to keep them all balanced with...
My 66 Deligreen EVE cells arrived today in 17 boxes
I am happy to say that the boxes are in pretty good shape.
One box was opened by customs. I opened that one and another one so far.
One thing I noticed is a "Made in China" sticker right on top of each cell.
I am happy to report that they...
Sol-Ark 12K, 2.5 years no failures. Damn good thing because I don't know what I am doing and I don't have any help except Sol-Ark.
I never call Sol-Ark. The Sol-Ark is easy to set up and it just works.
I was getting some annoying fault codes when I first set it up but they went away. I never...
I made a little progress today and mounted the Solark, transfer switch and AC disconnect. Nothing is connected.
Putting that 80 lb beast up myself was tricky. It doesn't look so huge in my picture though.
I moved the smaller transfer switch out of the way and mounted the 10 circuit Reliance...
I've been following this thread and I bought Sleeper85 a coffee even though I'm not using this stuff.
I see Sleeper85 putting in a lot of effort to make something work that I am interested in.
I checked the breakers for heat when I put it together. Nothing got hot.
My system will never see 140A. I use a max of 185A but it is split between 5 batteries so 37A each.
Even if I only ran 2 batteries I would still get less than 100 amps each.
If I ever ran one battery, I'd reduce the amps...
Make sure the busbars are flat with no burrs. They are stamped and some aren't flat.
Clean everything with acetone. Put a thin layer of Ox-Gard or NoAlox on the terminals.
So, I got my quote from Amy for five 48V battery boxes with the 4.3" JK displays and JK on off switches. One box has wheels. $1727 including DDP shipping.
That is $345.40 each. They will be sitting in an air conditioned shed.
My bi directional meter was installed today. The electric company didn't do an inspection.
The permit inspection was good enough for them.
I am fairly sure I can turn on grid sell remotely but I want my wife to be home when I do it.
Finally got them all out of the boxes.
The only thing I noticed wrong with these cell is the corner of the black cover got pealed back on one of the cells from the box customs opened.
I'll stick it down with contact cement.
I also got 2 odd cells that have a different format serial number. #57...
Happy New Year all. 5 1/2 hours til 2021 here in Florida.
I must say I have enjoyed myself here on DIY Solar Forum despite the gloomy 2020
Wishing for a better 2021! ?
Here's some pictures of my latest setup. This is an evolving work in progress.
I moved the BMS and shunt to the back so I could get all of the balance wires out of the way.
The + distribution bar has a 100A MRBF fuse. I'm still deciding what to do about Class T fuses.
I don't like the serrated...
I finally got two batteries up and running parallel.
They are connected to a MRBF fuses until I finish setting up 100A class T fuses for each pack.
I moved one BMS to the front but got the balance leads out of the way pretty good.
My solar panels and Solark are supposed to arrive today so I...
My batteries are only for when the grid goes down. So far after 2 years the grid went down for 2 hours.
I have over $10,000 invested in batteries. That's $5000 per hour. It worked and is worth it.
That group was created 2 years ago. I'm not so sure you can call that looking for new business.
My guess is that Michael got himself into a situation that he never will be able to fix.
He never set out to do anything dishonest
I finished my top balance and tore done the parallel setup.
Now I will loctite my studs in before switching back to serial.
I'm using red Loctite 263 which is for studs. The studs are supposed to break off unless I heat them before trying to remove them.
I took all of the studs out and...
I am fairly sure the causes of fires has nothing to do with bar codes or slightly bloated cells.
I am also fairly sure all of our cells are factory rejects. Otherwise we would have to pay 3 times what we pay.
Some factories destroy the barcodes so they won't have to honor warranties.
I have no...
I'm not sorry I bought an expensive Solark. If I bought one now I'd probably go for the 15K Solark. Or maybe I'd go for the EG4 18K but I'd know the risk. You get more from Solark than anyone else. Most people would still pay for the extra assurance.
I see all of the debugging going on around here and I think the companies that make the parts would be smart to pay attention. You guys are working for free.
I am far from an expert but from what I read Chargery is pretty good for the price. Especially for high amps.
Some things aren't right...
I DIY'd 5 280AH 48V batteries. It was amusing and everything works.
But I would recommend buying prebuilt. There are a lot of dangerous lessons that need to be learned.
Plus you can buy prebuilt with closed loop communication. UL certified. You get warranty and tech support from the battery...
It is amusing that DIY batteries are being discouraged now. I think the danger makes it less worthwhile to DIY now that the price is coming down for prebuilt safe batteries.
But I feel like I have a secret skill that I will continue to play with. I try real hard not to make mistakes because...
I finally got around to turning on grid sell.
The display showed over 5000W going out to the grid.
It will be interesting to find out if all of our loads will be covered.
I think I should be pretty close. Extra would be better since we plan to add an electric car or 2.
I often post what I think is correct hoping someone will correct me if I am wrong. And I assume a lot of others do that too.
Another issue I see here is the Watch button. People including myself often toss in a few words because it is just as easy as hitting the Watch button.
Those two things...
My opinion is that those cells will probably function just as well as what most of us got.
But looks have value so you do deserve something back.
There is a lot more to this than looks and a cell capacity test.
In the whole picture those two things are almost insignificant unless you find a...
I started opening the boxes in the order written on the box. Then I am numbering the cells and sticking a post-it note on the cell with the cell number and the voltage. I am recording the numbers and voltage and scan codes and I will enter them on a spreadsheet. I will enter more info like...
Hey Carlos, it seems like Solark should offer a deal on a 15K for your loyal supporters who bought 12ks the past couple years.
I would consider it. I would keep the 12k since I probably couldn't get much for it.
I didn't read this whole thread but I like to pay for as much as possible in advance so I don't have to pay for it when I am retired.
Besides that, my DIY solar projects are a hobby as far as I am concerned. And to have a hobby that partially pays for itself is kind of cool.
My solar stuff...
Now that I have the facts I can move on.
My charge limits will be on the straight line between the knees.
Time to play with my new toy that I mounted on the wall above my workbench.
I am waiting for 280AH or 305Ah cells to come down to $50 each for 100 cells delivered. I don't care if they are grade B. And I don't care if it takes 2 months to get them. We'll see how long I have to wait.
I dropped a wrench the other day and shorted 48V.
A busbar melted. The screw disintegrated. And the terminal is destroyed.
About 6 nuts got welded to the studs.
I'm sure that wasn't good for any of the cells.
It took about 2 seconds.
I agree that codes are supposed protect people. But big business puts a lot of effort into manipulating the codes.
Big business has been taking over everything.
You can do it if you have a drill press. You need a tap drill for M6.
And you need a flat bottom drill the same size.
You need to set the stop accurately so you don't drill too deep.
You need to use a flat bottom tap. Put the tap in the drill press and push the tap in the hole and turn the...
It seems to me that even if you check capacity and IR you still don't have enough info to match cells.
The true test is running the cells together to see how well they stay balanced.
Capacity is pretty good for matching but not as good as using the BMS to see which cells hit under voltage limit...
It appears you guys haven't seen the complaints about other ripoff sellers. Or the famous "group buy"
Amy doesn't have to be perfect to beat a lot of other sellers. Nobody is perfect but Amy and Luyuan are among the best in my opinion.
Besides trolls, a lot of people including myself come here to learn. And what better way to learn than to get involved.
Well, that means a lot of the people talking don't know much.
There are a lot of dangers to this stuff and learning the hard way can be painful and expensive or worse.
Anybody who bought a Solark and was shocked at "Made in China" didn't research. If "Made in America" is so important then do the work and make it happen.
I also figured out that when connected serial and one cell keeps jumping ahead of the rest it is a bad connection.
And balancing doesn't fix that.
But cleaning and sanding does.
I got confirmation that my order shipped too. I got a new BMS w/inverter communication.
And I got the faceplate with cutouts for the communication cables and the inner plate that holds the BMS.
I ordered 3 more JK BMSs w/active balance also. I think this one shipped air mail so I hope to get is...
That Deye is a capable beast.
But I went with the SolArk 12K. If I wasn't dealing with permits I might have tried the Deye.
I asked Electriccarpartscompany if people were using the Deye for permit installations and they said they didn't know.
AltE is helping me deal with the permit. I paid...
I did pass part of the inspection. The inspector changed it to final inspection and bought it off.
But I still need to have an electrical inspection. So, I'll schedule that now
I was going to make some fuse holders but decided to buy Blue Sea 110A - 200A fuse holders.
I back ordered 4 of them months ago and they finally shipped.
I got 125A class T fuses too.
You should be ok. They always settle. Don't try to get them to stay at 3.65.
If you do each cell the same way they should be close enough to each other to connect serial when you are done.
DIY brings pre built to market faster. That is part of the purpose of DIY.
If I needed more batteries I would consider pre built.
Now that I know how to put batteries together I will probably always feel I can do a better job myself.
The weather proof enclosures with heating and cooling are...
I've been thinking and thinking about the conduit.
The wires going in and out of the Solark don't each need a separate conduit.
So something as simple as this could work for connecting the electrical panels.
or this
I could probably make it a little prettier. Maybe I could add a junction...
I ordered 18 cells for a 48V battery. After I ordered them I thought "Why did I buy extra cells? These things are matched and batched."
Well, we have seen problems arise with these cells that are out of the control of the seller. I might not ever use the extra cells but I think having a...
Thanks,
I just went and did the other one
Hole drilled. Ground off drill. Doesn't need to cut in the center. Good thing
Flat bottom hole
Rotate by hand in drill press to start tap exactly perpendicular
Removed from drill press to finish by hand
Cut off 2 threads
Finished with ugly...
If Tampa Bay gets 10 feet of surge, a lot of people will die.
St Pete and Clearwater could get 10 feet too.
I'm near Clearwater in Palm Harbor.
We are about 1/2 mile from the Gulf but at 65 feet elevation so surge won't effect us.
I don't plan to evacuate.
My use case isn't very demanding. I assume that will change someday like when the electric co. takes away net metering.
I'll use the BMS to know my limits.
But I am only planning to use 70% until I find the need to use more.
You guys are way ahead of me.
My batteries aren't cycled every day so they will last 20 years unclamped.
I agree with the video that these cells will lose 70-90% of their value in 5 years because newer technology will make these old news.
I have unboxed 34 cells so far. No rush obviously.
I haven't noticed anything wrong with any of the cells.
They are all 3.29V so far.
Deligreen sent me a lot of wimpy busbars and stainless set screws and lock nuts. I'll use them until I get my think busbars.
Here's the info for 34 of my cells-...
Everybody is getting the deals after I placed an order for 66.
I paid $100 each including shipping and fees from Deligreen in August.
My batteries should be here in a couple weeks and I will start a thread about them then.
There are people around here that have been using the jk bms for about 5 years. I have 10 of them. 3 different active balance versions. I don't know of anything better
So, this statement from their website really means Sol-Ark is an American made engineering firm but their products are made in China.
"Sol-Ark is an American-Made, U.S Department of Energy Solar 2020 Semi-Finalist Winner, veteran-owned and engineering firm based in Parker, Texas."
This was supposed to be here-
I just went and did the other one
Hole drilled. Ground off drill. Doesn't need to cut in the center. Good thing
Flat bottom hole

Though it has nothing to do with climate change, religion, lawyers, politics or education, I am preparing for retirement.
My house will be paid off soon.
I bought my wife an electric car and I installed solar. And I don't have payments because didn't borrow the money.
Part of the reasoning is...
I am still testing my 2nd 48V battery.
So far my tests have produced similar results to others posting about recent EVE 280Ah purchases.
Average capacity is about 275Ah.
I have one cell that is about 270Ah. I will leave open the possibility that I could have caused some capacity loss.
That...
I am not a Facebook member so I can't see the posts.
And I don't know Michael.
I believe you when you say people who deal with you will not end up like people who dealt with Michael.
Michael thought he could make some money playing middle man. But like 99.9% of new business adventures, he...
I finished a couple capacity tests using 3.6V top and 2.8V bottom and no absorb.
I got 275Ah on one and 276Ah on the other. That seems about right since I didn't go all the way to the top or bottom and I didn't absorb.
2 more are being tested now.
I tested the internal resistance @ 3.35V, 3.6V...
If I short the original configuration less cells are involved. It's almost impossible to short all cells on the original layout.
But the alternate layout has the + and - right next to each other. And you can easily short a bunch of cells all down the middle of the battery.
