Cool cabin. From what I can see and your description: I wouldn't be concerned about the ground in the combiner box. If you are happy with a 1.2kw MAX, disregard the following. If you ever intend on a combined load above that... The 6ga. wire on the batteries needs to go away posthaste. That...

  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

ROI $ is not as clear cut as a simple wattage calculation for me. As the majority of my winds are after sundown, lessening cycle depth plays some part on battery life. I don't have any with/without wind assistance longevity data, but I know it helps some. As heat is the enemy of electronics...
  • Post in thread: Automated solar permitting

While CA loves to pretend to be green, many jurisdictions still consider solar panels an eyesore and prohibit them being visible from the street, while all new homes are required to have them. I laugh when I see the huge tracts of new homes in Fontana with north facing panels for these reasons.

Check out this link VOLTAGE DIVIDER when you have a chance. Once you have the resistance values calculated, the divider will send the necessary 3v to the ssr once the pma output reaches "X". You could also use a variable resistor in place of r1 to tweak the actual cut in.

I suppose it is worth recording history in the aftermath of an unsalvagable situation. How we got here is a long road.
  • Post in thread: How to properly connect a 120v inverter to 240v service panel(only using 120v)?

Sensible. Current inverter could only output 50 amps even if voltage drops to 100v. Would you concur, Dr. Matt?

  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

This was my first one. It was a 5 blade turbine (supposedly) rated for 1200 watts. After weeks of wind tunnel testing, my engineering team devised this tail extension. It helped so much that the 16 ga. wiring in the slipring had a meltdown during a windstorm.

You have motivated me to message them. I looked at other pics there. Seem to be 31 units per pallet. So min 620 panels. I don't have that much hustle left in me. ?

That is a curious take on the subject. Why would you chose to concentrate on the 30 watt photo (NOT photos) when the data is there? Some days there is absolutely zero output. Would you like to see the one from two days ago where it produced 1800 wh?
  • Post in thread: Can Solar & Wind Fix Everything (e.g., Climate Change) with a battery break-through?

they are certainly having trouble understanding why their models are so far from reality. Fluid dynamics can't be accurately predicted in a fish tank. Let alone globally.
  • Post in thread: Does Solar Pay for Itself? Is it worth it?

This is on point. It is HIGHLY likely (especially in today's economic environment) that your panel manufacturer will not exist in 2047. I recently did an 8Kw panel upgrade with used panels for around 25% of new panels and producing around 70% of rated power. It keeps my charge controllers...

  • Post in thread: 1K Cabin Setup - Comments welcome

You always want to keep the breaker sized lower than the lowest amperage point of the system. In your case, lower than the wire and the switch. 100 amps should be good for that inverter and (upgraded) wire. If the DC switch is not rated for that, change it.

  • Post in thread: New ole geezer with questions! Can anyone help answer

This is an issue with Growatt. Once the unit shuts down from low voltage, you must provide 24v from another source to re-fire the unit. It WILL NOT charge the batteries or function without this jumpstart. As OzSolar said, you are way under-paneled and under-batteried to run a space heater.
  • Post in thread: Small wind turbines no longer worth it?

Sure. I would get behind that, once there was a working prototype that produced substantial power. Until then, I would probably build one of these.
