Have solar in my van already with a Victron mppt. Would like to add a dc to dc charger in the coming months as power generated from solar will decrease.
Does anyone have a diagram of how to hookup this Dc to dc charger so that both it and the solar can charge my lifepo4 house battery? I’ve seen...
Crash Bandicoot my 1982 T3 VW Transporter is about to get solar in a few months so I'm getting ready to order start ordering supplies for it. Pretty excited for it!
Let me know what you think parts wise and if my calculations with the MPPT are correct for the build.
Solar Panels:
2x 100W...
Took out the custom built (about 8 months ago) lifepo4 280ah battery out of my van today and discovered this when trying to charge it up (see photo). I top balanced it 8 months ago when I put it together and in the van. Seems really out of sync, is this normal after a set amount of time...
Besides the great artistic ability :D, let me know if this looks right to you. Particularly the main fuse and circuit breaker to mppt sizing.
Thanks in advance!
1. Have 2 flexible solar panels I need to mount to my fiberglass roof (drill-less, no exceptions).
2. Live in Europe
3. Eternabond is insanely expensive here, but anyways there's no distributor in my country and Amazon doesn't ship it here.
4. Are there any alternatives that are almost as good?
Hi guys,
Quick question, building a DIY battery for mobile solar use. Do I need all three of these products or could I get away without buying some of them (the battery monitor and shunt for example seem very similar in their use to me).
Battery Balancer Link
Battery Shunt Link

Would running the 30a Victron dc to dc smart charger to charger my lifepo4 battery tax my 65a alternator too much or should it be ok?
The manufacturer doesn’t seem to include info on this. Are any of you running it on a stock alternator? If so what is your alternator rated for?
Thanks!

Hey guys, having some capacity issues with my custom 280ah lifepo4 Dongguan cells. Get about 220ah out of them currently with the xiaoxiang bms with a Low Voltage Disconnect set at 11.5V (2.875v per cell). When I contacted Dongguan they told me the correct LVD should be 10.0V (2.5v per cell)...
Hi guys, I just ordered 4 280Ah battery 3.2V cells. I plan on building a 12V van solar system with it.
I'm confused a bit about the BMS, there are many options out there. I don't need low temp shutoff function as I'll be buying a victron energy mppt that has one.
The Daly one seems like a...
Hi guys, looking to buy an inverter for my solar van build. I read on an RV site today that it's relatively important to find one with more than one plugin socket if you want to use multiple devices at once as there is some power loss if you connect a power strip to a single one.
Do any of you...
My Dongguan 280ah cells finally came in today (yay!) and I'm looking to top balance them. The problem is they only sent me 4 busbars and I have 4 cells and unless I'm miscalculating I need 6 to connect the 4 cells in parallel. Is there an easy way around this? Would 10awg wire work instead of 2...
Hi guys found the following 600W pure sine inverter locally that I'd like to buy for my vehicle solar setup but I saw that Will mentions the following on his site:
The packages below come with a hook-up wires and a remote. The remote switch is required for vehicle mounted solar power systems...
I've researched and checked the main FAQ and watched several videos but still have a couple of questions:
1. I have a 220W (2x110W) series connected solar array producing 6a per panel (max) with a 100/20a Victron MPPT. I can't find a reputable circuit breaker (to put between the MPPT to the...
Came across Will's minimalist setup video and I really like the compactness of this design. He eliminates the circuit breaker entirely and fuses the MPPT with a fuse blade via his fuse block. He also has no separate bus bar this way. Are there any negative aspects to wiring things this way...
Hey guys based in the EU. Have an offer to buy a 72V 50Ah system for around $700 including a BMS. Supposedly has only 100 cycles where it was used as an "electromotor" (not sure on what). Has GEB cylindrical cells (never heard of them but probably from aliexpress). I plan on making it into a...
Hey guys, I have a spot on my van that's annoyingly tight. It's literally 1m x 1m . I swear a few more cm on each side and I could fit 2 100w panels size by size but alas can't do much with it now.
I have another spot on the van that I can fit 1 100w flex panel on comfortably but would ideally...
I'm in the process of building a 200W, 280ah solar system in my van here's my shopping list. Could you guys please look it over and let me know if I'm missing anything? Thanks in advance!
Hey guys I have 240w worth of Offgridtec solar panels on my van but the most I’ve seen from them is somewhere around 150w. I’m in Europe, Italy at the moment.
Getting blue sky days everyday around 30C and still the power seems pretty weak. They’re connected in parallel if that makes any sort...
Hey guys,
Interested to hear what you have to say about installing flex panels on a roof. I've seen videos of them being attached with eternabond tape though this option is much pricier where I live than buying vhb and using that. Should there be any spacing below the panel for cooling or is...
This is after top balancing using wills method, and about 24hrs in parallel. Now hooked up in series. Could it be that they are grade B cells? Some of the terminals looked scratched up when they arrived.
Hi everyone,
I have a custom LifePO4 setup in my van and today I got a weird error after I tried to plug in a 10-11a load via a surge protector and my inverter. My Xiaoxiang BMS all the sudden showed a voltage drop across the cells and really strange values. Like it would show the battery at...
Looking to wire up my battery monitor but a little stumped as far as wiring goes. The negative part of the circuit I think I understand, to connect it in between the battery - and the load - however in this diagram, is the "charger" supposed to be my MPPT or is that supposed to be an Inverter or...
Hooked my panels up to my system today and tried to get several readings over the course of the day with my multimeter and MPPT.
At the multimeter I seem to get slightly over 20V on each panel (at the peak) and around 5.5a (also peak) which seems to line up with the 110w rating. At my MPPT, I'm...
Hi I'm adding a Victron DC to DC charger to my van which already has a 280ah LifePo4/240w solar setup going on with an Aili Battery Monitor. My question is, is it possible to somehow hook this up on the same circuit so that the Aili Monitor correctly estimates the battery charge in/out or do I...
This is what I gathered from one of the main threads:
280ah measurements: 173.6mm x 71.5mm x 204.8mm
Based on the measurements a 4 cell battery = 173.6mm (l) x 286mm (w) x 204.8mm (h)
How much room would you guys leave above the battery and to the sides if I were looking for a box?
Would a...
Hi guys,
I have an issue with my xiaoxiang bms in my van. Overnight it showed my 280ah Lifepo4 battery (Xuba/Dongguan) dropped from 80% to 25%. There was nothing connected to it besides a low consumption fridge that I know is not a problem. The cells are all showing around 3.33v (13.33v total)...
