A survey of the various products like Solar Assistant, Home Assistant and others for use in monitoring solar systems and the features of each. Include the breadth or lack thereof of each product’s ability to communicate with the various major inverter and battery brands.
The climate has been changing since the beginning of time and we as well as the next couple of generations of humans will be gone before any real shortage of fossil fuel. Where solar is affordable for you, use it, where economizing makes sense do it, if you enjoy large vehicles and can afford...
You should spend some time googling grid tied inverters, the are a wide range of them available. Choose one or more that has a power meter and is capable of “zero export “. After doing that, post here with more specific questions about the options you think might be best for you.
I was grid...
Read the actual IRS instructions for the form, not “news” articles about them. You can deduct for equipment you place into service in the tax year. You of course can’t deduct for same equipment 2 different years. The various news articles on the subject are generally written by people who...
My “issue” was shipping damage and they made it right, I continue to purchase from them when price is right. A issue fixed is frequently a good experience- was the case for me
Big government can charge you for whatever it wants and how much it wants. Revolutions are occasionally required to put a stop to it and the cycle repeats. That’s the way it’s always been and the way it always will be. Ecclesiastes 1:9 “….there is no new thing under the sun”
Agree. Except partner with a “real” electrician- someone like @timselectric - someone like Will who has presentation skills partnered with someone who has the electrical craft skills would make a good team. Focus on the types of electrical connections that are somewhat unique to solar.
It’s crazy to consider Solar in the situation described, and even worse for anyone to assist in that endeavor. Get help hooking up to utility and then they have assistance programs to stay connected.
If I had to choose from your list, it would be hobbyist. However, for me it’s an adventure. I keep bees, crappie and catfish In warm weather have long been a distance runner and in younger years living on west coast enjoyed skiing and scuba (was a diver in navy) and raise chickens- if you...
I have 2 Growatt inverters purchased from SS. On 3 occasions I had the need to ask help with issue. I called the Growatt support number and got a cal back within 3-4 hours, in 2 of the 3 cases I had figured out my mistake before the call back- the third was a confusing setting issue for the...
I think many here don’t understand what this means or misunderstand it. I will try to explain further what you are saying, hopefully I don’t muddy it more:
1) the “grid” is huge. If you want to speed the grid up (increase the frequency) you must supply enough power to the grid to measurably...
Absolutely, our meter counts power both ways as consumed power. This is something that probably varies based on meter age and what type of “default” meter a particular distributor installs.
Self2Solar has them listed for preorder, website says arriving mid May. See link below.

Me too, but if you already have a traditional dryer, you can more cheaply buy a whole lot of panels to over panel the inverter(s) with so you can run the traditional dryer and other stuff when sun is poor or short in winter. When current dryer dies will consider heat pump version.
Like mini...
There are several different websites where Growatt data sheets, installation guides and general technical papers discussing various topics, some that can be useful and informative.

On what basis do you make that statement? I would like to propose a friendly challenge for you to explain how that can occur or point to a reference that does. Unless you are thinking about the issue with reverse polarity mentioned earlier in this thread and at length in other threads.
Our dryer, and I assume most, cycles the heater on/off rapidly to maintain temperature after initial heat up which is 10-15 minutes. I would expect after reaching temperature the heater would simply spend more time on than off and cycle less. Good idea, thanks for sharing I’m going to try it.
An event like that is what drove me to take our house off grid permanently instead of staying grid tied. Lost boards on dishwasher and clothes washer in same event - was able to buy replacement boards and replace myself. One neighbor lost an oven and something else, another lost a dishwasher-...
If you are good with buying the seemingly expensive ARO battery to go with it, IMO it’s very good for the following reasons, I have a 11.4 and 6. I don’t consider the battery expensive compared to the supposedly cheap ones out there though, they come with a very good closed cabinet and all the...
Yes, choose equipment that leaves your options for the future wide open, there are many inverters that can be used both grid tied and off grid - several different ways of do that.
I agree with everything you point out and more BUT he has produced a reasonably good product at a reasonable price and you can see improvements in the beta versions that are slowly coming out. The primary thing I find fault with is the documentation ( the help file) does a very poor job of...
There is a higher level installer version of the app. It lets you change the grid code and some other things. You can sign up for an installer account- it’s easy, BYK2003 showed me how, I am traveling and don’t have the instructions handy.
I suggest you go ahead and tell him privately BYK -...
Even IF 20 minutes were accurate, anybody who does actual real work the bulk of the time involved in any job is in the preparation, travel to/from site , compliance with the myriad legal, safety and environmental check boxes and so on.
