  • Post in thread: Article - How an entire columbus neighborhood is getting free solar panels

Even IF 20 minutes were accurate, anybody who does actual real work the bulk of the time involved in any job is in the preparation, travel to/from site , compliance with the myriad legal, safety and environmental check boxes and so on.
  • Post in thread: Article - How an entire columbus neighborhood is getting free solar panels

    Nope, thousands
  • Post in thread: Growatt MIN series battery requirements

There are a lot of people on this forum (including the owner) who make income on 48 vdc battery equipment in various ways. It would be nice to see one of them realize they could sell a device that would sit between a set of “generic” 48 volt DC battery and several of the more popular inverters...
  • Post in thread: How exactly does grid-tied hybrid inverter detect loss of grid?

In the grid world, when a particular Gerdie gallops too much the dispatcher orders it disconnected from the grid and someone has to console it until it is calm enough to get back on the track.
  • Post in thread: Please check my string calculations. EG4 18kpv, 60 300w panels.

I would think that as the 18Kpv increases frequency, if the grid tied (ac coupled) inverter does not reduce its generation that the 18Kpv would hit a high frequency trip of some sort. I assume it has high frequency trips - this is one reason it should. Otherwise you are correct, something will...
  • Post in thread: EMT for DC PV inside the house. Why?

I guess it’s kind of a unintended advantage of over paneling. My inverters are 13.5 amp max usable current for each MPPT, max short circuit current 16.5 amps. I’m using strings that are around 18.66 Imp and Isc about 19.6 amps. The 16 amp breakers I’m using should trip if a short circuit occurs.
  • Post in thread: Combining two different size grid tie inverters ?

I believe his inverter is a Growatt MIN-11400-TL-XH-US as are mine. They are not what you think of when you say “AIO”. They pass nothing thru. They have completely separate grid tie and off grid outputs. You must have a auto transformer if you want split phase on off grid output. The...
  • Post in thread: Solar as a hobby ROI.

Mental health, all hobbies boil down to that.
  • Post in thread: Growatt MIN series battery requirements

System is described in my profile. Will be putting 9.9 kWh ARO on the 6k-MIN in a week or so when it is delivered. All the charge/discharge totalization and retention for the battery appears to be done in the BMS and communicated to the inverter- I believe if a EG4 or similar battery were put...
  • Post in thread: Mitsubishi mini splits off-grid?

I couldn’t agree more, except the skill does not come quickly and for some people it takes forever to get where you can put a system together with no leaks. Good craftsmen really are worth their weight in gold, but for people who want to hang onto more their gold and not go through the painful...
  • Post in thread: Confusion on meaning of Off Grid vs Grid-tie vs Zero Export

The simple fact is the terms are used very inconsistently. The various manufacturers use them inconsistently as do the many websites and store fronts as well as users of this forum. I am off grid using inverters that most people on this forum call gridtied inverters. Everyone has opinions...
  • Post in thread: Mounting panels with unistrut

I have 18.5 kW of panels mounted on unistrut (Superstrut) using 1/4-20 bolts, nuts and fender washers. It’s a pole mount arrangement so back access is easy. Panels directly against the top of strut, fender washer and nylok nut inside the channel, fender washers that fit inside the channel and...
  • Post in thread: Signature solar issues. (Resolved!)

Sometimes it seems as if Signature Solar owns the forum……..
  • Post in thread: Proposal from solar vendor - 200% overpaneling?

    1) size inverter for how much a/c you need and how much battery you need to charge. With some margin. 2) Add at least 2x panels over that for the following reasons: A: remember in 20 years you will be at about 80% B: Shading, cloudy days C: Hot weather you will lose capacity- varies with...
  • Post in thread: MIN 7600TL-XH-US growatt - grid tie. Does it need an auto transformer?

Just so you know, I deleted what I spent considerable effort in providing needed information to you because it became clear you are not ready to digest it. The approach being used by @kscessnadriver is more likely to be successful - listen to him.
  • Post in thread: I did a thing! Sunny Island, growatt min ac coupled system

When you going off grid? That’s the logical next step!
  • Post in thread: Got my solar tax credits and my CPA says I can't use them, but I can sell them?? Help!

Tax credits are for the wealthy. I never cease to be amazed at how liberals who always claim to be helping the downtrodden seem to be so quick to give wealthy folks a handout……..
  • Post in thread: Got my solar tax credits and my CPA says I can't use them, but I can sell them?? Help!

Nope, IMO the solar tax credits are absolutely for the wealthy- the wealthy who import and profit from the sale of equipment at prices that are inflated beyond what would be sustainable in a market economy. Edit: working class people are actually paying for the tax credits.
  • Post in thread: Will it work? Supplementing off grid inverter/battery with on grid PV inverter in one system.

That is exactly what I am doing with a pair of 11.4 kW MIN-TL-XH-US inverters since mid July. House is totally off grid, one inverter is grid-tied syncing to the off grid output of the other inverter. Each inverter feeds a separate distribution panel and the grid-tied inverter has a power...
  • Post in thread: Coming Energy Prices …..

I’m guessing you were one of the ones laughing when Trump predicted in 2018 exactly what would occur - some people are hopeless, only existing because throughout their lives there’s always been someone around both willing and able to make sure they are taken care of, more often than not those...
  • Post in thread: Growatt inverter grid tied stuck in stand by mode

Does your inverter show any faults? See the attached screenshots for an example of a fault I created by unplugging power meter on inverter with no PV and no battery. With some faults it will throw a fault and then reset in a few seconds after the inverter trips and if you are not watching...
  • Post in thread: Confusion on meaning of Off Grid vs Grid-tie vs Zero Export

I don’t disagree with your statement, but the issue is that the various combinations and variations that fit the definition make the term useless in describing anything specific. Telling someone an inverter is a hybrid tells them nothing about the inverter.

  • Post in thread: If restarting from scratch knowing what you know now, how would you build your system differently?

If I had it do do over, I wish I had invested time to learn how to work with metal conduit before I started- now that I have my system like I want it I’ll be spending a lot of time/work this fall putting everything in metal and also making it look nice. When I started I knew virtually nothing...
  • Post in thread: I did a thing! Sunny Island, growatt min ac coupled system

It all depends on how you want it “packaged” and if you have the skills necessary to build it as neatly as you need it to be. Everything is a trade off of many pro’s and con’s. Also, your pricing reference is a little old. The Growatt ARO 19.9kWh battery can be had on eBay for $8,776, free...
  • Post in thread: New Growatt hybrid inverter SPH10000TL- HU-US split phase

That’s where I’m different than most. Batteries are easy to really mess up and that’s expensive and dangerous. I was once a submariner and I am very familiar with the catastrophic things that can occur with careless and haphazard use of batteries of any type. I want nothing but closed loop...
  • Post in thread: Growatt MIN11400TL-XH-US without batteries

  • Post in thread: Growatt Whole Home Backup (SYN-200) questions

    1. With ARO you can install 36kW-hr of useable battery on a single inverter (90% of 2x19.8) The APX is less than that - don’t remember what it’s max is, it’s lower though. 2. The APX will charge/discharge each individual module equally. But with the ARO, when the SOC of modules diverge as...
  • Post in thread: Just installed some EasyStarts on 5 ton AC

The grid has no problem starting an AC unit, thus there is no benefit of going to the expense and trouble of installing easy start. But, if you have an AC unit on a critical loads panel you would want it to start successfully when off grid so it would be logical to use an easy start in that...
  • Post in thread: Growatt 7600TL XH-US

agree with 1201, max AC output of the inverter is 7600 watts. If you were to add a battery it would be able to use the additional PV to charge battery.
