Pyro fuses can be easily salvaged from EV salvage yards and some BMS out there have ability to setup this type easily. From my knowledge Batrium is one of them....probably more that i didn't have time to research. Infineon technology is what I'm very familiar with but this is another discussion.
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

It is possible but you will have to mimic cells for all bms leads and use benchtop power supply to act as battery voltage acting as battery terminals. You can use some cheap battery cells for testing anything that is within specifications of bms to read.
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

Have inverter on idle use jumper cables while you rebooting BMS. Just my advice.

  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

Looking at your update...interested in your benchtop testing with new balancer.
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

I will see if I can bring Infenion BMS to the aftermarket...it will be EV level of safety and modular as someone wants to make dreams come true. Will update when i talk to some of my engineers and corporate staff. It will definitely require minimum fast-acting Class-T fuses or Pyro fuses and...
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

Pulse wide modulation is clever way to control some things with off grid battery setups.
  • Post in thread: What are the suggestions for the heating function and WiFi function of JKBMS?

How about you consider making BMS with your engineers that don't require mosfet and use shunt breaker, relays, fast-acting Class-T fuses and Pyro fuses that are already used in EV world and making BMS that can be easily figured out to be safe for parallel connection with out the limits to the...
  • Post in thread: Best LifePo4 charge controller settings known to man for Maximum Service life and Minimum battery stress!!! 5,000-10,000+ cycles?

You definitely got lucky and have good batch of battery cells that are within tight QC tolerances. High quality battery cells are easy to work with. What is your BMS and balancing method? I do prefer active balancers over passive types.
  • Post in thread: Is an active balancer needed for 16s battery bank?

I would advise to be little sharper curve for active balancer 3.455 per cell. A lot easier to bring lifepo4 chemistry to the tight mV difference. And make sure you calibrate active balancer to stay away from flat curve of lifepo4. Bottom or top balance you choose the flavor. Each has some...
  • Post in thread: I can't seem to charge my 2015 Nissan Leaf!

By looking KWh delivered from the outlet is going to always be more with L1 than L2 charging. So if you using this as reference how far your EV can go then that is misleading.
  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

Here is the heavy question. Is this device watching on average voltage for cells to determine when to awake. And what is the delay for device to boot. If it is looking after average Voltage to awake this could lead under charging that one cell can drastically shoot over 3.650 and still keep...
  • Post in thread: 2p16s: What to do with faster (and slower) 'runners'

You will probably have to take it out test alone for Ah ratings....If all goes well top balance all cells individually and do some detective work why this row is not charging with rest of them or discharging faster than rest of them.
  • Post in thread: Best LifePo4 charge controller settings known to man for Maximum Service life and Minimum battery stress!!! 5,000-10,000+ cycles?

I do understand that but how often do you check parallel cells for integrity especially if they are going to be used over long-term. At 500+ Ah i usually run separate resistance meters that track and watch overitime for voltage drift or resistance imbalance between multiple parallel cells. So...
  • Post in thread: JK BMS issue with charging

I have watched Andy video but my test is giving me different results. Will have to watch one more time when I get the chance to see where Andy and me are going different in observation. But for everyone else this is not something you should be worried about JK BMS it just needs attention to this .
  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

Sure...but if there is short still on the board not making enough current to blow other fuse it could lead to completely dead cell in the pack. One of biggest investments are battery pack and inverters so careful design and benchtop BMS testing are good choice to figure out everything and know...

Are you running cells in parallel and how many?
  • Post in thread: Anybody ever parallel 2 or more of the the Heltec 5A active balancers?

@Maast does this balancer have additional outputs that could be used to control other things like relays, shunt breaker and etc. ? I would appreciate if you would give me more information especially experience you have gained using it. This could be interesting gadget I would try to play with.
  • Post in thread: JK BMS issue with charging

And another unknown with Andy power supply is how accurate it is when voltage is adjusted under load. Most of expensive benchtop supply requires temporary lead removal before adjusting voltage...there are many unknown factors in his testing.
  • Post in thread: New 48V battery, potential issue

When setting BMS cells max and low V you should set it example 2.7V low 3.450 V high and set Inverter pack voltage to stop above this limits. Example 3.000 V X 16 = 48V low cut off for inverter. 3.45V X 16 = 55.200 V high voltage and if you have ability for absorption time set 3 hours and if...
  • Post in thread: New 48V battery, potential issue

You can also increase bms high cell to 3.500 V but set Inverter to never reach this cell voltage ( pack Voltage 55.200 V ) That will be 3.450 V per cell. 3.370- 3.400 with absorption should be your cell target Voltage. Also need to check Voltage drift from charger to the pack terminal ( before...

I would try to use different BMS for experimental purposes and try to see if this still happening. Definitely interested in your problem and what was the issue. Keep us posted so we all learn together.
  • Post in thread: Parallel Battery String Topologies, solution needed for JK and other BMS

Also for quite advanced users there possibilities to run different Ah in parallel packs . Higher Ah pack will naturally deliver more current in parallel when discharging. Position in the parallel pack storage can be arranged to mitigate this in your favor but this will require more than just...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPH4000 and Seplos not stop the charging of battery

Lifepo4 chemistry using absorption could bring battery to over 100+% SOC at only 3.444 V. Threshold is dependent on cells manufacturers. Relaying on SOC is not possible with this chemistry. Shunt is never 100% accurate. So only way to get it right is to go after battery total voltage and using...
  • Post in thread: Ideas? Multiple Dumb BMS VS single smart for 950AH LifePo4's

I would advise on BMS that don't use mosfet and have independent modules, one for monitoring, one for balancing, fast-acting Class-T fuses ,relays. Probably 5A or more active balancer. I have successfully run 1000 Ah parallel battery cells in 16S battery banks. Definitely possible but safety...
  • Post in thread: A/C pulling from Batteries instead of Generator with GROWATT at High Temps and High Altitude

One of best solutions if you are willing to spend money and use existing hardware on the RV will be variable compressor speed with inverter that control demand needed to run most efficiently. This roof top units still run 1990 technology and can easily require 3X inrush current to start and they...
  • Post in thread: Neey active balancer equalizer hack needed

It is looking at average cell voltage to wake up or sleep and this why there is still issues with this design. Proper design should watch for individual cell voltage or cell voltage delta. Some other Chinese balancers are even more worse where they only look for battery total voltage to trigger...
  • Post in thread: New 48V battery, potential issue

When you start heavy user watch your voltage drop across all cells....and if some drop more than the rest inspect bus bars and make sure you have no gap under the bus bars ( you can use flash light you should not see any light across the cell terminal and where bus bars meet). Also make sure you...
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

Craigslist would be good way for tables or smart phones. This is where I look for dummy devices that will have one single function, connecting to the bms. Waiting money on new device is not something i would want if you are going to use it without sim card.
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 capacity test question?

This battery cell testers have no separate leads to check for voltage under load. If you using same leads for discharging and voltage measurement it will not be correct Voltage you should see. • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

0.165 V is not bad......if you shooting for 3.4 V for cells max V that will bring you in worst case scenario up to 3.565 . Definitely interested in more details. More tight ( accurate) deltaV trigger will be better choice.
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 capacity test question?

I will agree with you on your statement and add at 3.650 V fully saturated cell will after 24 hours be in the 3.370- 3.400 V this is natural phenomena with this chemistry and if you monitor for 24 hours you will find V threshold where your cell like to be in real world charging max cell voltage...

Just make sure you don't get something else besides Snapdragon...LG do make devices also from Taiwan chip maker this ones are nightmare with Bluetooth chips.
  • Post in thread: Load tester calibration

With laboratory tools discharging down to 2.6 after cut off it will go up to 2.800- 2.890 V . We have to understand that even if you discharge this chemistry down to 2.5 V over 24 hours it will have enough charge to pull more Ah but I will not advise on this . To explain on chemical level what...

  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

I will be more than happy if you can provide shunt that has ability to measure 200+ A and it is capable to measure very small current draw. You have probably misunderstood my post. I was not referring to the JK bms issue but your overall expectations that you should expect from JK BMS . And...
  • Post in thread: Neey active balancer equalizer hack needed

Watching after average Voltage is not going to help keeping your battery pack in check no matter how good battery pack is. It will happen over time. And this is not how balancer should be working. Even if you set max pack voltage it is possible to happen because some cells will become runners...

  • Post in thread: 32x EVE LF280K pack configuration - need second/third opinion

If you want less bus bars ( less resistance more efficiency) i would go with two parallel 16S battery banks. It will require one more BMS . This what i have learned working with EV battery packs. And slowly moving away from P and S in one battery setup. If you are going to scratch my advice...
  • Post in thread: JK 4S 200A BMS

This small current draw will not be picked up by shunt. And by looking at voltage that is rough estimate. Your SOC is guessing. Try to find better shunt that will keep memory of SOC even if not used for many weeks. But extend periods of not charging or discharging will not substitute lifepo4...

  • Post in thread: Active balancer, make it smart!?

No i have not yet have one of this to test but i would love someone else to do it. After top balance is done provoke one of the cells above threshold to find out if it is looking after average cells voltage or single cells voltage to wake up and balance again. And what is the delay and how many...
  • Post in thread: What is considered normal/acceptable Delta V ?

Acceptable DeltaV will depend on how accurate your bms is in reading voltage. When you know this that will give margin of error +/- (example BMS is accurate down to 6 mV) . How fast you charging and discharging scenario will change how DeltaV across cells. Grade A +++ will stay between 2-8 mV...
