"If it's not excluded, it's covered". If that is not what your insurance company says, you need a new insurer.
  • Post in thread: Home Insurance & Non UL Approved Equipment

Too many people just roll over when the insurance tries to screw them by not paying.
  • Post in thread: CATL 271Ah cell issues.

Sounds like a stall tactic. IMO UPS will do nothing because of the way they were packaged. "Denial Reason: Insufficient packaging, cushioning, or protection Specific claim denials that occur as a result of insufficient packaging, cushioning, or protection are: The merchandise was not...
  • Post in thread: Solar and batteries or generator when grid goes down?

I see them running well into the dark here when the crops come in or when plowing. There is a reason they have flood lights on the top.
  • Post in thread: Your Charge Controller "Charges" the line between your Battery.

This IS correct. The ONLY difference you should have between the OUTPUT terminals of the charge controller and the BATTERY terminals would be the voltage drop (resistance) of the cable connecting the two. If that drop (resistance) is too high, there IS something wrong with your system. I...
  • Post in thread: Texas grid close to edge tonight ?

An EV is not solar power. But to answer the first part of the question, while I have no issue with EVs in general, I do have an issue with them being rammed down our throats without thinking things through long term (i.e. infrastructure needed, costs, battery material availability, battery...
  • Post in thread: Will Prowse violating the terms of his YouTube agreement

Probably not a good idea for the OPer to be posting his own personal info.
  • Post in thread: Texas grid close to edge tonight ?

I'm still not convinced that we are causing any great change. It's been an abnormally hot summer here, but some of the records still stand - from the 1930s.
  • Post in thread: CATL 271Ah cell issues.

How is it stealing money if people filed a legitimate claim with their credit card company or paypal for goods not received or not as advertised? IMO it is wrong to vilify those got tired of waiting for a resolution that most likely will never come. I still don't understand what UPS is supposed...
  • Post in thread: Budget 12V 100AH LiFePO4, LiTime vs Power Queen?

FWIW, I just got a LiTime from Amazon. It capacity checked to 106Ah, which was surprising. I opened it up because I wanted to put in another smart BMS I had on hand. I was very impressed with the build quality as compared to other ones I have ripped apart. Note, this pic has my BMS in it.
  • Post in thread: Gas-Powered Lawn Equipment Will Soon Be Banned In Cali, a broad category that includes generators.

Common enough that they have a web site for rolling blackout schedules. https://www.sce.com/outage-center/outage-information/rotating-outages/rotating-group-number
  • Post in thread: Run from Signature Solar!!!

Yep, and he claims we can't read. LOL
  • Post in thread: Run from Signature Solar!!!

As others have asked, what is the backstory on how the order was placed? If it was a $12K order, how were you trying to pay in the first place? You said it was "paid for", so why the offer to pay in cash? Something is not adding up yet without more details.
  • Post in thread: Prepping for impending grid outage

I used to do a lot of prepping (for the long term) back in the day. However after years of research (and thinking about it logically), I have come to the conclusion that it is mostly a waste of time. Unless you live in an uncharted area and have a continuous source of food and water, having...
  • Post in thread: Battery Behind Seats in Tacoma. Is this a bad idea?

I know it is strapped in, but I would probably wrap the battery terminals with some electrical tape to not only keep something from rolling in there and shorting, but also in case of an accident so they don't short onto anything easily.
  • Post in thread: Solar and batteries or generator when grid goes down?

I would never buy a generator from a manufacturer that considers running it as abuse.
  • Post in thread: Inexpensive Battery Any Good?

Not with every Amazon item.. One must look at the return policy and if it was shipped and sold by Amazon. This item is sold by a third party. Sure they except returns but it does not say free returns. One should check with the seller first. Ships from SZJTech Sold by SZJTech Returns Eligible...
  • Post in thread: Texas grid close to edge tonight ?

This is not the forum to get into this debate, but no, I was not joking. I'm old enough to remember the 70s "global cooling" arguments. Are we responsible for causing some environmental issues? Yes. But I am more worried about our ability to "poison" water sources than effecting significant...
  • Post in thread: Is there any advantage to having a fuse/breaker between solar panels and solar charge controllers?

If for no other reason, you would want a disconnect for the panels to the CC. Might as well use a breaker.
  • Post in thread: CATL 271Ah cell issues.

Wrong. People have every right to file a PayPal or CC dispute for what has happened. Nearly two months ago you said you would give the supplier "a day or two more" to come up with a solution. No solution came, and people did what they needed to do. At this point it looks like you are just...
  • Post in thread: Run from Signature Solar!!!

Seriously? As a business you you would ignore emails? While a phone call may have it's place, I prefer email as it has a "paper trail" of exactly what was communicated, rather than a "he said, she said".
  • Post in thread: CATL 271Ah cell issues.

He never said they weren't. Actually, he specifically said they were.
  • Post in thread: Did I just fry my battery?

It looks like the damage is mostly on the busbar. Have you measured the cell voltages?
  • Post in thread: Solar and batteries or generator when grid goes down?

Seriously? I guess my car did not get the memo when we drove coast to coast non stop (along with all of the other many hour drives). I live rural and have never known any farmer to stop to let their tractor rest. Sure, you might want to let things cool off a bit before changing the oil, but...
  • Post in thread: Tesla Powerwall Price Increase

I would never install anything I don't have 100% control over. I also hate any cloud based services that are required for operation.
  • Post in thread: Texas grid close to edge tonight ?

Make it easier to get DIY solar approved.
  • Post in thread: How do you prevent back feeding the grid during outage?

I don't consider that a true grid-tie. IMO a "true" grid-tie absolutely needs the grid to be up to function, and everything else is some sort of hybrid. Of course I am old school and was a beta tester for the original Xantrex grid-tie inverter. Yes, this is the way I see it.
  • Post in thread: 4/0 cables & 250ANL fuse heating

Looks like you have a washer between the fuse and lug, I would have the fuse directly on the lug. And I would clean up that one lug too.
