Alternative panel mount breaker box to the Midnite MNEDC-QUAD?

I'm having a hard time finding panel mount breaker boxes for panel mount style breakers. The only remotely affordable one I can find is the Midnite MNEDC-QUAD. Do you folks know of any alternatives? The price isn't horrible, I suppose. But I wouldn't mind finding one that holds even just a single breaker for less than $50 to $80.

I still haven't found any other small panel mount boxes. It's a hard, kind of generic search term to look for. Do any of you folks know of any other small, doesn't even have to be metal, boxes for panel mount breakers? Like the Midnite Solar-MNEDC100 style breakers?

Outback Solar also uses this style breaker, They are made by Carlingswitch.

I’m in the same spot, am considering gutting a $21 AC panel and just using the shell. The Carling breakers don’t quite fit a BR opening so a bit of dremel work will be needed.

I have these Large Carling DC Breakers (175A & 250A) as well from Midnite Solar for my systems. I tried looking for proper boxes for the panel mounts but these buggers are big and not easy to find small boxes for them. I spent roughly 2 months searching without luck so I bit the bullet & bought a Midnite MNDC Box for my second setup, the 1st one was with the MNDC E-Panel. I did however find a "Plastic" breaker box that would fit these Big Ones but as it was not listed or anything and awfully flimsy in comparison I took a pass on that... Just not willing to play the risk odds for a few bux.

I believe that also have a Panel Mount version available which would use a standard DIN Rail but with a deep enough box to handle them. There are a few other brands of Large DC Breakers which are as good that do work within a Din Rail box but their dimensions are pretty big, I think the equivalent of 4 regular sizes breakers in width. Noting also that most are Polarized Breakers now which is no problem for us...

Due to the way my projects unfolded, I used all Midnite Solar Boxes & Breakers (DIN & Panel Mount) and I can say that the boxes provided by Midnite are really top notch and solid, the metal used is even thicker than what Square-D & Scheider use for their boxes. I know they are more costly but again, you do get exactly what you pay for.

It's quite the challenge! That is cheapest purpose built product you're going to find.

Outback used to make the PSDC which is was super handy when we had to make our own power centers before AIO's became so common.

Not exactly what you want but these might work for you in some fashion.

BTW: @OzSolar mentioned StellaVolta, I'll chime in to say that they are an excellent vendor who often has excellent sales that beat most. The sales are random but when they have them, they are amazing... Got my last Midnit SCC from them, a Classic-150 for $750 and NOT the SL model either. Delivered really fast and zero hassles at all. Their regular price now is $961 USD.

I dunno IF Midnite Solar still does this, BUT they used to sell Blemished / Scratched Breaker boxes really cheap, they did not advertise them and you had to ask... It is worth Asking, you never know ! Sure as heck can't hurt to ask if they have some on discount or what else is in their Bargain Bin of goodies. (warning, have a firm grip on wallet or give it to your better half to be safe LOL).

I have the same problem, unable to find small boxes to fit these breakers so I fabricated my own boxes to fit these 250 amp Carlingswitch breakers. I have a homemade shutdown consisting of 4 gang switches in the same case as the Carlingswitch 250 amp breakers. Basically like if you bolted 4 of those 250 amp breakers in parallel. They are Carlingswitch rated at 150 volts and 156 amps per pole wired in series for a unit rating of 600 volts and 156 amps. I have removed the series connections and reconnected in parallel so I have battery cutoff’s rated at 150 volts and 624 amps, being able to be remotely tripped by a very small regulated current/voltage to trip the shutdown.

These were special made for Midnight for their early Rapid Shutdown which never made it to market. They have a built in trip relay within the switch which uses a very small current to trip the switch off remotely. Found at the Midnight “yard sale” for the princely sum of $10 each.......Thanks Midnight, I just could not pass that up

I can confirm that Midnight does indeed sell surplus, refirb, and damaged items on the “garage sale” portion of their website, also by inquiring. Every so often they will add a bunch of customer returns, refirbs, and surplus items. I scored a Classic 150 from there at there at so low a price that I just couldnt pass it up as well as combiners, remotely tripped switches from an early rapid shutdown system 4 pole 156 amp 600 volt rated for a pittance of their market prices. Steve_S’s warning is valid, keep a grip on that wallet, it will be hard to pass up the deals on “not quite perfect product”

Hi Technodave,
I went to the midnite solar site and I don't see them selling anything, I don't see a cart. I do see them pointing to distributors for purchasing. Am I missing something? I too am looking for a "box" to panel mount a midnite breaker.
