Hi all

Just looking for a bit of advice around extending my CT cable on a DIY battery only installation.

I’ve had to run armoured cable from the meter box under some patio slabs (path) and then into the garage. I’ve run shielded cat5 alongside it as I was advised not to bury the CT cable alongside the armoured.

One end of the CT clamp is just two wires so I’m just going to use one of the twisted pairs from the cat5. However I’m a little unsure how to proceed with the clamp end.

What have people done with this end. Is it actually possible to remove the clamp from the cable it comes on and attach to the cat5 cable or am I better off just cutting the clamp off and then joining it to the cat5 using some sort of crimps. I would usually use wago connectors for this type of thing but seen some suggestion that these shouldn’t be used.

What’s the best process for getting the clamp onto the new cat5?

Solder your CAT5 or 6 STP (shielded) to the existing black and white cable.
Do not dismantle the CT.
Try NOT to run it parallel to AC power lines too much when using a long extension due to noise.

Ppl have been running fine with atleast 30m this way.
Put the CT on the incoming LIVE cable from the grid. After the public meter.
And after your own main fuse.
